Interview With Rodney Baylor, Vice President of Client Services for GeneDX

Discussing The Importance of Genetic Testing

By Tammy ReesePublished 2 years ago 3 min read

Vice President of Client Services for GeneDX, Rodney Baylor has over 30 years of experience in the medical field industry. He is behind the scenes and conducting ground-breaking work to prevent illness that is often genetic.

GeneDx is a clinical lab leader in clinical genomics and rare disease. The company has over 20 years of expertise in diagnosing rare disorders and diseases and pioneering work in identifying new disease-causing genes. GeneDX's commitment to genetic disease detection, discovery, and diagnosis is based on sound science and enhancing patient care.

Getting ahead of the curve. Often many people don't think about genetic testing unless one is attempting to become pregnant or an illness that has been passed down for generations. No matter where you are when it comes to genetic testing. We can all agree we know the bases of why someone would get tested. Although we have ground-breaking technology some things are just left overlooked.

Genetic testing is a type of medical test that identifies changes in genes, chromosomes, or proteins. The results of a genetic test can confirm or rule out a suspected genetic condition or help determine a person's chance of developing or passing on a genetic disorder.

Imagine a world where you can get ahead of illnesses that are often passed down for generations. For example: "Bi-Piolar Disorder". A company that does genetic screening in the early phases of your life before the triggers began or even a preventative method. The great thing is you don't have to imagine it because GeneDx is doing just that.

Tammy Reese: What is a normal day like for you?

Rodney Baylor: A normal day consists of meetings and working with my team, colleagues, vendors, and customers. I lead a talented group of individuals who serve patients and providers across the U.S. and Canada.

Tammy Reese: What are the benefits for people who utilize your services?

Rodney Baylor: Genetic testing can provide a diagnosis, which may help guide medical management for a patient. A genetic diagnosis also helps their family members determine if they need to pursue genetic testing.

Tammy Reese: What impact do you want to make in the lives of others?

Rodney Baylor: I wish to give hope to patients and people who want a better quality of life. I want to help them find answers to their illness and assist them with an effective treatment plan.

Tammy Reese: What else would you like our readers to know about you and the work that you do?

Rodney Baylor: I have dedicated more than 25 years to healthcare and medicine. As I stated earlier, this work is personal because I am a cancer survivor. I start my work day with a sense of purpose and passion because my goal is to help people.

Our work is life-altering. For the last five to ten years, we only reserved services for the white and wealthy class. I want to emphasize that genetic testing is available to all people. Many insurance payers cover tests. Financial assistance and self-pay options are available if insurance is not an option.
