Where Was Nikki During Her Possession?

Obsession has led to so many theories online that have become an endless topic of discussion. I myself have pondered several of these theories myself, wondering what was really going on in this film. Even though we are given a very straightforward storyline, the unanswered questions are what make this movie shine. The mystery behind everything that takes place in the film is what makes it so creepy, as we try to figure out what was really going on with Nikki.

We are aware that she had gotten possessed by Bear's own hands, when he selfishly used a product he had purchased from the store to make his own wish. Once he wishes for Nikki to fall in love with him, all hell breaks loose. Things start off weird between Nikki and Bear when he wishes for her to fall in love with him, but he slowly realizes she is under some kind of spell when he confronts her over a horrible lie she made about her dad to get close to him.

Nikki continues to go off the deep rails, becoming more psychotic as the film progresses, going so far as to kill her own friends to keep Bear close.

My question over Nikki's possession under Bear's wish, is what happened to the real Nikki. We are aware that she attempted to break free of the wish throughout several scenes of the film, trying her best to fight back with whatever was keeping her at bay. She even pleads with Bear to end her life, to free her body, and she even refers to another version of herself, implying that she was aware that her body had been taken over.

My biggest question is what had taken over Nikki's body, and where was the real Nikki during this insane possession?

I believe that Nikki was in some sort of forbidden realm where her soul was being held. We do get some clues hinting to Nikki's torment, and it was terrifying to listen to.

Midway through the film, Bear decides to finally call the company in charge of the wish product that he had used on Nikki. He wants to alter the wish and is then told by the mystery man on the other end that the wish cannot be altered, but if he wishes for Nikki to go back to her normal self, Bear must end his life. Then we get a scary moment of the man asking Bear if he wants to listen to Nikki's torment on the phone, and for a brief moment, we hear Nikki screaming.

It lasts only a couple of seconds, but it was enough for the audience to use their imagination to wonder where the real Nikki was. From the sounds of her screams, I believe that Nikki was in some sort of different realm. My theory is that the man on the phone is the Devil, and he was holding the real Nikki's soul in eternal hell. This theory does make a lot of sense, because the One Wish Willow does come off like an evil product for humanity.

I think that only some wishes go well, but people like Bear who used the wish for very selfish reasons was obviously not one of the good ones. The wish instantly backfired on Bear, and the wish ended up leading to Nikki's torment, as a messed-up punishment for Bear, and Nikki was unfortunately pulled along for the ride, her body becoming a literal vessel for the fake version of Nikki.

The fake version of Nikki was most likely a demon that had taken over her body, which explains her insane bouts of madness throughout the film, and it was so tragic how the real Nikki was trying so hard to fight back to regain her body.

Bear is the main villain of the film, who could have found a way to save her prior to the awful events that take place, but he chose to keep her around, due to his obsession with her.
