When Spirits Come Calling Part Two

Ghostly happenings

My father and me

Why does this all fascinate me? Why do I like to write about the paranormal?

Contacts With My Father

My family has always had a sort of sixth sense when it comes to the spirit world. We’ve had contacts and premonitions, and I myself have seen things good and bad. My gift of premonition came when I experienced the shock of losing my father at the age of ten. Afterwards, I felt him, and I saw his coffin in the sky on a starry summer’s night. He died in November of 1967. Why the coffin and not him? I don’t know, but I do know what I saw. Many years later when I was already grown, one Christmas Day while I was making Christmas dinner at my mother-in-law's, I was thinking of my father, and I felt a warm hand brush across my cheek. Now, of course, I did turn around to see that my husband was standing in front of a cupboard with both hands full of glasses, but I just knew then and there it was my father. I believe this comes from my mother’s mother, who was able to predict quite a few things and could tell people their fortunes on cards.

My Grandmother’s Premonitions

My grandfather was in the Russian army and had to take his wife and children over the Urals, where he would be serving. My grandmother lost one child there; her husband was shot by the Russians specifically for having an uncanny resemblance to Czar Nicholas and left alone away from her country with my mother, who was then three years old. Her hair became white overnight, and then her premonitions began. When my grandmother died, a very close friend of the family told me she would be a grandma to me now. I believe she was specifically sent to me because she too had the ability to contact the spirit world.

From the left, me. my mother, and my "adopted" grandma

After my father’s death I was at her house, and she told me as she was holding me in her lap, she looked up to see my father looking in on us from the kitchen doorway. She said he wanted to be sure everything would be alright with me. Before he died, my mother read the signs wrong. Her mother came to her in a flowered dress, sat at her side on the bed, and showed her some signs. Years later, when my mother could discuss this with me, I asked her to precisely show me what it was that my grandmother had shown her. My mother had thought at the time that she was the one that would die, and I pointed out to her that my grandmother had made motions like a person smoking. The smoker in our family was my father.

Message From My Mother

When my mother died many years later in Riga, Latvia, and my husband wound up in the hospital that same year, she came to me in physical form so that I would recognize her. She was dressed in her pajamas, with her glasses on her nose and carrying a piece of paper. She stood at my bedroom doorway and said, “I called and called, but you didn’t answer, so I had to come up to see you.” I knew right away that it meant that everything would be alright with my husband and that my mom would be there for me.

Losing My Husband

Sid and his Papa

Life has a way of flowing on much too fast. The years have now flown and after living for 20+ years with my husband and soulmate in Riga, Latvia I lost him in August 2017, and afterward I had close contact with him and it comforted me so that I could sell the house and make the long journey back to my homeland the U.S. Along with me, I brought my adopted cat Sid. Cats are very sensitive to the world beyond and will see spirits when humans cannot. It was traumatic for him to lose his beloved Papa, my husband, and here in a new world in Florida he chose to live on the roof of the two-story house I live in so he could be closer to his Papa.

Sid on the rooftop

On full moon nights he sat at the very edge of the roof and plaintively meowed to him, and I am quite sure he had contact with it. My contact most often now comes in specific dreams. Sid and his papa were finally reunited, and my only comment was, “Hey, boys, thanks for leaving me all alone. " But I know I am still loved and watched over.

The Long Journey Home and My Traveling Companion

For the true believers out there and for those who are curious, I will briefly tell you of our long journey from Riga, Latvia, to Florida. I could not leave my cat Sid behind, so I took up the task of carrying him through three airports. It all went well due to one fact, and that fact was that my late husband made sure we arrived in the states safely. How was that possible?

Well, our first leg of the journey took us on Air Baltic from Riga to Amsterdam The plane was small, and I had a seat at the very back. The plane was filling up but the seat next to me remained empty so I asked the stewardess if I could put my traveling bag on it She explained that the plane was totally booked up. I flew to Amsterdam with the empty seat beside me, but it really was not empty; my late husband was with us, and due to this, my cat slept comfortably the whole way. If I wanted any further proof, it came when we boarded the giant Delta from Amsterdam to Orlando, Florida.

This was a huge jetliner with two rows of seats against each side of the plane and six-seat rows down the middle of the plane. Once again the plane filled up completely except for the seat next to me. I felt him; I knew he was there, and I was grateful for the company because I was making a huge change in my life. My cat Sid was relaxed and made no sound. As an indication of his presence, the video in front of the empty seat turned on at one time. So Sid and I arrived safe and sound in the U.S.

However, even though my family has had this special type of gift, I don’t abuse it because I know that I still am no expert and I’m certainly not a medium, but it comforts me to know that they’re out there and they will be there for me.
