Hilltop Fall House

Nothing on this earth could ever fill up the hole that Adley Myers had in her heart. Things just started happening. Things that couldn't be explained, even by very smart and gifted people. What would happen next?

All Adley did nowadays was sit in her bedroom and stare at the wall. Sometimes she would find a perfect little corner in her room and huddle there and try to escape the voices in her head and the shadows in her room. Such darkness. Such sadness. She was once bubbly and happy before she went on vacation with her parents instead of going to her last year of high school prom. But he parents insisted that getting away would be good for her. Instead it wasn't. Instead it was horrifying.

All this took place at a fall resort in Salt Lake City, Utah. And there Adley was, in the back seat of her dad's silver Sedan, staring out the window day dreaming of what prom would be like. She had always wanted to go to prom. But here she was going on vacation instead, Lord only knew when they would get back.

"Dad?" Adley asked, still stuck in her day dream. "Did you and mom ever go to prom?"

Her dad and mom looked at each other and her mom smiled. Yes, her parents were high school sweethearts. Most popular kids in school back in their day. They went to the same school Adley goes to now, Seederly High.

"No, we didn't go to prom," Mom responded, grasping her husband's hand tightly. "We went to a little diner and had supper there instead of going to prom. I didn't want to spend all my hard earned money on some dress I would only wear once."

Adley glanced at her mother in dismay. If would've been nice if her parents did go to prom, so she could get an insight on what it was like. Instead she just sighed and thought about her best friend, Raina, and how much fun she was going to have at the prom.

"I wanted to go," Adley whispered to herself.

"What was that, dear?" Dad asked, glancing at her through the rear view mirror.

Adley shook her head. "Nothing. Just talking to myself."

"I know you wanted to go, dear," her mother stated. "I know you wanted to go with Dorian as well. After all, he is your boyfriend and also he's the leader of the Seederly High Baseball Team."

Adley rolled my eyes. Yes Dorian is her boyfriend. Yes she was hoping to go with him instead of sitting here wondering if he went with someone else. This upset her. Would he actually cheat on her to get what he wanted? She knew he has been wanting to go to prom as well. Adley sighed and laid her head against the window, staring at the scenery as it zipped by. She hated not getting her own way. Rich or not... She never actually got anything she needed or wanted. Money wasn't everything to her. Being popular wasn't everything to her. Having a nice car and nice house meant nothing really. No materialistic thing in this world could ever make her truly happy. She just wanted to go to prom.

"Look, we're here!" Mom said loudly with excitement.

Adley leaned forward in her seat between them and stared out of the windshield. The house was sitting on top of a hill. A gravel road lead the way and it was aligned with purple trees that blew in the wind.

She huffed in annoyance. A hilltop fall house? Away from human interaction and civilization itself. Why her? Why now? All she wanted was a prom.

As they pulled up closer to the house Adley had a weird strange feeling run through her body. Something seemed off about this place.

"Do we own this place, dad?" She asked, staring out the window and looking at the house.

Dad shook his head. "Nope. We're just renting this place for a week. Should be heading back home in Friday."

She sighed in relief. Hopefully they would leave sooner than later. This place seemed off to her. Something creepy. Something horrifying.

As they pulled into the circular driveway, a shiver ran down her spine. What was this strange feeling? It was something she had never felt before. Something she didn't want to continue feeling. The house was beautiful. But it was an eerie type beauty, if that made sense. The way the circular driveway was aligned with beautiful Jacaranda trees, or Royal Empress trees, would take your breathe away. The house itself sat on top of a cliff that looked over a magnificent blue-ish green ocean. Stairs on the side of the house was clearly visible far off to the left of the white painted staircase. The stairs, though, led to a dock. The grass was a light green color with flowers here and there making the colors surrounding the entire yard pop. The house was made up of brick and wood. The face of the house was brick while the rest was wood.

Such beauty in a creepy place, Adley thought to herself as the car came to a stop and everyone climbed out. Adley glanced around the new area, trying to take everything in at once. Something in the top left upper window caught her eye. A shadow movement in that top room. At least she knew which room to avoid now.

"Dad, Mom," she said, trying to hold in fear. "Do we really have to stay here? Can't we stay somewhere else?"

Dad stopped unloading the car full of suitcases and stared at me, wiping his brow.

"No, Adley," he said sternly. "I've forked out a lot of money to rent out this place. I can't get that money back. We're staying."

Adley sighed in annoyance but helped her dad unload. She didn't want to be here. She wanted to be somewhere else other than here. I'm sure you can guess where? Prom.

She had a feeling this was going to be a very long vacation.
