They Will Kill You is a Fun Bloodbath that Carries the Same Signature of Tarantino's Kill Bill

They Will Kill You was a nice fun surprise for me as a horror fan. I remember seeing the trailer to the to film in theaters, but I was unable to watch the film in theaters at the time. I finally got to check it out when it was released on HBO Max, and I was blown away by the main storyline of the film. I knew that the film was about a young woman going on a rampage against bad people, but the premise itself revealed so much more than I was expecting.

This film follows the story of a young woman named Asia Reeves, who has gone back to a hotel to try and find her sister. Ten years ago, Asia and her sister, Maria, had escaped from their home life with their father, who was revealed to be a monster. Asia and Maria were on the run, and they are unfortunately caught in a store by their father when Maria steals some candy. Asia shoots her father with a gun outside when he catches up to them, but he lives from the attack. When the police are arriving, Asia ends up running away, leaving her sister behind, and she is sent back to live with their father.

Asia is sent to prison, but once she is getting closer to her parole date, she hires a private investigator to find her sister. He discovers a hotel called Virgil, and he informs Asia that something is strange with this place. Asia doesn't hesitate to go to the hotel, and she goes as far to take the place of another person named Isabelle, who was planning to take the job as a maid in the hotel. The staff believe that Asia is Isabelle, and they let her inside of the hotel, letting her stay inside of the building as she begins her job as a maid.

Things immediately go wrong when Asia realizes that the hotel is run by a cult.

The cult consists of several people who own the hotel, and Asia throws all of them off guard when she suddenly attacks all of them, killing each of them with an assortment of weapons. She leaves the hotel room, and comes across Lily, the owner of the hotel. She confronts Lily, and she informs Asia that the family that owns the hotel is not what they seem. The people that Asia just killed shockingly emerge from the hotel room, each of them with cocky smiles as they each regenerate their wounds in front of her.

Asia escapes from the cult, and runs into a random hotel room where she knocks out a kid that attempts to attack her, and she finds a secret compartment to escape in. Two of the cult members go after her, and she is able to get away once again, while sustaining injuries from this group. She runs into Lily's husband, Ray, and she learns the truth of why the cult is immortal. The hotel is a temple for the Devil himself, and he granted them immortality for wanting to work with them.

Asia and Ray end up running into Maria, who is being held in the hotel. Maria refuses to leave with Asia, due to Asia abandoning her when she was a kid, and Asia knocks her out, determined to escape with her sister. The trio is caught by the cult once again, and Asia escapes with her sister, as Ray is captured by the cult. Asia and Maria eventually resolve their issues, when Asia and Maria constantly keep saving and fighting for each other in the second half of the film. They are unfortunately captured by the cult, and Asia learns a dark truth. Maria had been forced to make a deal with the devil, to ensure that she wouldn't die.

Isabelle was supposed to be her sacrifice to stay alive, but now Asia has been chosen as Maria's kill. Asia is captured by the cult, and brought to the devil himself, who enters the head of a pig to speak with Asia. He gives the order for Lily to dispose of Ray, for betraying the cult. Lily and Ray share a heartfelt goodbye before Lily puts him down, and then he gives Maria the order to kill her sister. Maria tricks the cult by ending her own life, and Asia is left to fend for herself against the cult. However, Maria made sure to leave behind her own personal trap for the cult.

Maria purposely made Asia immortal to defeat the cult and the devil.

Once Asia realizes that she is immortal, she goes on a killing spree against the cult. She defeats all of them, leaving the devil last. She defeats him, and once she kills him, the cult members that were after her during the entire movie all die instantly, their immortality now gone for good. Asia leaves with Maria's body from the hotel and finds the private investigator waiting for her. She brings Maria into his car, and then Maria shockingly wakes up, and it turns out that Asia also tricked the devil.

She saved Maria's soul from the devil, and now the sisters are together again.

The movie ends with the private investigator making the choice to not question what horrors took place in the hotel, and he takes the sisters out of there, hinting that they will now have a better life.

They Will Kill You was a fun Indie horror film, and I highly recommend that everyone checks out this movie!
