The YouTube Account You Can't Close Out Of

The internet is filled with a plethora of things to satisfy our boredom. Some sites are helpful. Some give us cute and funny pet videos. Some are inspiring and offer daily motivation. And then there are the sites that lurk in the darkest corners of the web that you probably shouldn’t visit.

Just like the real world is full of urban legends of mysterious creatures and other strange beings, the internet is also home to some bizarre and sometimes downright terrifying urban legends.

The internet urban legend of username 666 is one of them.

Username 666

This internet lore goes as far back as 2008 and is considered to be one of the first internet urban legends.

Legend claims that username 666 take you to a secret YouTube page. A page that’s claimed to exist in the darkest corners of the web. Yet accessing it is far easier than an innocent mind might suspect.

At first glance, there’s nothing too exciting or even remotely scary about username 666 except for maybe its sinister sounding name.

After typing in the URL, a message displays.

"This account has been suspended"

It looks like a dead end.

But it’s far from over.

Legend claims there’s a secret method to access the page.

Hit refresh.

Nothing happens.

Refresh the page again.

The page remains uneventful.

Just keep refreshing the page.

Refresh. Refresh. Refresh.

Just when you’re about to give up, the suspended YouTube page changes to a blood red and starts to distort. It gets even weirder and even more unsettling. You wonder what you got yourself into.

Every text on the page transforms into the number 666 and other strange symbols you don't recognize. Distorted demonic music starts to play through the speakers.

And suddenly username 666 has been resurrected.

The page contains bizarre and disturbing graphics of distorted gore and other disturbing horrors. So disturbing that you close out of the page. Or try to at least.

Maybe you should have stopped when you had the chance.

Because now you can't close out of username 666 as bizarre and graphic horrors fill the screen and demonic music continues to play from the speakers. Pausing the video won’t work. Neither will clicking on another video from another YouTube account. Think you can simply close out of your browser? That won’t work either.

The only way to escape from username 666 is to physically disconnect your computer or force a shutdown.

Some of the unfortunate ones have claimed that not even that will work!

The page takes a mind of its own. It’s almost like the YouTube channel is being possessed by something and now it won’t let you leave. Did you accidentally summon a demon?

You keep clicking button after button. You hit refresh. You try closing the browser. You try every possible attempt to close out of this disturbing YouTube channel you never should have tried to access in the first place. And then, from one of the disturbing videos, a hand appears and reaches for you right through the screen in the last seconds before your computer crashes.

They said it was just an old internet legend. Maybe you should have taken the username 666 as an omen and turned back before it was too late.

The origin behind username 666

The unsettling YouTube page Username 666 was created by Piropito or the username "nana825763"as a concept video. This user is known for creating horror videos that are deeply surreal and uncanny.

However, there really was a suspended YouTube account with the name 666. The exact reason why it was suspended and who owned it remains unknown.

Username 666 has become one of the most well known, and possibly creepiest internet urban legends.
