The Whispering Shadows

It was a cold October night when Daniel moved into the old house at the end of Blackwood Street. The locals avoided it, whispering about strange noises and eerie shadows that danced across the windows. Daniel, a skeptic, dismissed the stories as mere superstition.

His first night was uneventful, except for a strange draft that made the candles flicker. As he settled into bed, he heard a faint whisper.

"Get out..."

He froze, his heart pounding. He convinced himself it was the wind and forced himself to sleep. But the next night, the whisper returned—louder, more insistent.

"Leave now… before it’s too late."

Determined to uncover the truth, Daniel explored the basement, a place the real estate agent had warned him to avoid. Dust covered the floor, and cobwebs hung like veils. In the corner, he found an old, rotting wooden chest. As he opened it, a putrid smell filled the air. Inside lay a collection of faded photographs—all of people who had once lived in the house. Their faces were scratched out.

Suddenly, the temperature dropped, and the whisper turned into a chilling voice.

"You shouldn't have come."

The door behind him slammed shut. Panic surged through Daniel as the shadows around him thickened, twisting into human-like figures with hollow eyes. He tried to scream, but his voice failed him.

The next morning, the house was empty. No sign of Daniel, no packed belongings—only the open chest in the basement. A new photograph lay on top, its face freshly scratched out.

The house remained for sale, waiting for its next visitor.
