It was an autumn evening when Jiv and wish decided to hike through the infamous Whispering Hills. The small village at the base of the hills had always warned outsiders to stay away, but neither of them believed in superstitions. Local legends spoke of eerie whispers that lured people into the woods, never to return. jiv and wish , both thrill-seekers at heart, were determined to uncover the truth.
The sun dipped low as they made their way up the rugged trail, the golden light fading quickly. The wind began to pick up, and the rustling of the dry leaves sounded almost like whispers. Jiv laughed nervously. “It’s just the wind. People have way too much time on their hands here.”
wish smiled but couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. The hills were too quiet, as though the world beyond them had ceased to exist. She glanced at the dense forest surrounding them, its shadows thickening with each step.
“Let’s make it to the top and then turn back before it gets too dark,” wish suggested, her voice edged with uncertainty.
jiv, ever the confident one, nodded. "We’ll be fine."
As they ascended, the trail grew steeper, and the air grew colder. The trees loomed closer, their branches tangled in a web of gnarled fingers, as if trying to keep them from going further. The deeper they went into the hills, the louder the rustling sounds became. But it wasn’t just wind now—it was as if the whispers were coming from all directions.
Jiv’s footsteps faltered as he caught a faint voice. "Did you hear that?" he asked, his voice suddenly quiet.
Wish strained her ears, but the woods were as silent as ever. She shook her head. “It’s just the wind, Jiv. Let’s keep going.”
But the whispers continued. Low at first, then rising in pitch. They were soft, indistinct, like a thousand voices all speaking at once.
The trail narrowed, and Jiv led the way up a steep incline. The last rays of sunlight were fading fast, and a thick fog began to settle over the hills, clinging to the ground like a living thing. The whispering grew louder, more urgent.
“Do you hear it now?” Wish asked, a chill creeping up her spine. The voices were unmistakable—soft, melodic, and sinister.
Jiv stopped in his tracks, his face pale. "It’s coming from up there... Look!"
Ahead of them, standing at the edge of the forest, was an old stone structure—an abandoned temple, hidden from view until now. It seemed out of place, ancient and decayed, half-swallowed by the earth.
The whispers were louder now, almost like a chant, rising and falling in rhythm.
“We need to get out of here,” Wish urged, her voice trembling. But Jiv, drawn to the temple like a moth to a flame, shook his head.
“We’ve come this far, Wish. We need to know what’s inside.”
With a mixture of fear and curiosity, Wish reluctantly followed him. They approached the temple cautiously, the air thick with the scent of decay. The heavy wooden door stood ajar, as if inviting them in.
Inside, the air was thick with dust and an oppressive silence. Strange symbols adorned the stone walls, faintly glowing in the dim light that filtered through the cracks. The whispers were no longer just voices; they were chants, a dark rhythm pulsing in the air.
“Do you feel it?” Wish whispered, her eyes wide with fear. “Something’s wrong.”
Jiv nodded, his breath shallow. He had no idea what was happening, but the weight of the place was suffocating.
Suddenly, a figure appeared at the far end of the temple. A cloaked figure, its face hidden beneath the hood. It stood perfectly still, yet its presence was suffocating.
"Who’s there?" Jiv called, his voice trembling.
The figure did not respond. Instead, it slowly raised its hand, pointing toward the ground. Jiv and Wish followed its gaze and froze. The ground beneath them had cracked open, revealing a dark pit. From within it, a deep, throbbing hum emanated, like the beating of some monstrous heart.
"Get back!" Wish screamed, grabbing Jiv’s arm. But it was too late.
The whispers intensified, a cacophony of voices now screaming in their ears. The earth trembled, and the cloaked figure stepped forward, its hood falling back. The face that stared at them was not human. Its eyes were wide and empty, hollow sockets that seemed to peer into their souls.
"You shouldn’t have come," the figure rasped, its voice echoing with an unnatural resonance.
Before they could react, the ground beneath them gave way. Jiv and Wish fell into the pit, their screams swallowed by the darkness. The whispers grew deafening, and the world around them seemed to twist and warp. The last thing Wish saw was the figure’s eyes, gleaming with malice, as the earth closed in above them.
Hours later, a group of villagers ventured up to the hills to search for the missing hikers. They found the abandoned temple, and the trail leading to it was eerily quiet. The wind had died down, but the air still felt thick with something they could not explain.
At the base of the temple, they found a stone tablet, covered in dust. The inscription read: "The Whispering Hills claim what is theirs. They are never truly lost."
But the villagers never found Jiv and Wish’s bodies.
And as the wind began to stir once more, the whispers returned, faint but unmistakable—echoing from the hills, always calling, always waiting for the next curious soul.
