Within a few of the following images, you can clearly see both Rick and Simon driving on the same highway. Their destination is unknown but seeing as how they're going in the same direction, they likely have a similar destination. Although, could these images of Simon and Rick on the same highway be of Simon rolling up on Rick as Rick does some recon on Negan's Sanctuary?

If you don't remember, Simon is Negan's right hand man and played by actor, Steven Ogg. Ogg is most well known for his likeness being used in one of the characters on the popular, Grand Theft Auto V videogame but he's definitely getting an opportunity for some television spotlight on The Walking Dead, though we can't say for how much longer.

Presumably speaking, Daryl and Jesus informed Rick of the location of Negan's compound and the first step they'll likely take is doing recon of the compound, planning everything out before making any attempt to eliminate Negan and his main horde of Saviors.

Are Rick and Simon on their way to a Confrontation?

Knowing Rick, he'll be the one to conduct the recon and it wouldn't be an episode of The Walking Dead if Rick didn't run into someone unexpectedly on the way which is where Simon comes in.

The stills of Simon and Rick staring each other down as they drive on the same highway are very telling images. Considering the look Rick is giving Simon, he appears very pensive while filled with intent. It may just be a vague expression used for the unexpected run-in or Rick could have something else in mind.

For a moment, take account of the situation to be able to visualize what's going to happen next.

In the scenario of Rick doing recon on Negan's compound, followed by unexpectedly running into Simon on the way there, Simon will be inclined to tell Negan that Rick's group knows where they are held up. If Simon is allowed to tell Negan of what he learned, then Negan will probably move to another undisclosed location, placing himself out of harm's way. Keeping that in mind, Rick will probably come to this conclusion quite fast, acting quickly to ensure Simon doesn't give Negan any hint of Rick's play to take him down.

There's also the matter of Rick's new motivation for taking Negan down which makes him dangerous again. Rick took on a cowardly stance when Negan asserted his dominance over Alexandria but Rick's newfound courage is going to change how Rick proceeds from this point on. With that in mind, Rick might find Simon's presence on the highway as a threat to his on-going plans which would likely be followed up by Rick pulling a gun on Simon or running him off the road; either scenario is possible.

It'll be up to Rick's discretion in regards to what he'll do if he happens to encounter Simon on his way to Negan's compound, the Sanctuary. Though, the likeliest set of events will see Rick running Simon off the road, followed by Rick getting out of his car to make sure Simon is dead - eliminating any possibility of Negan learning Rick's plan to bring him down.

Do you think Simon and Rick are on their way to a final confrontation? And could the images of Rick and Simon be foreshadowing this confrontation?
