The Voice Inside My Walls Knows My Secrets

It doesn’t just listen… it remembers everything you try to forget.

By Alyan khanPublished 6 months ago • 3 min read

It started with a scratch.

Not loud. Not aggressive. Just… faint.

Like fingernails brushing against wood.

I heard it the first night while lying in bed, staring at the ceiling. The clock read 2:17 AM. The house was completely still.

Scratch… scratch…

I sat up.

“Hello?”

Silence.

I told myself it was just pipes. Old houses make noise. Everyone knows that.

But then it came again.

Scratch…

This time, from the wall beside my bed.

The next night, it got louder.

Not just scratching anymore.

Something… moving.

Slow. Careful.

Like whatever was inside the walls didn’t want to be noticed—but didn’t care enough to stop.

I pressed my ear against the wall.

That’s when it stopped.

Completely.

The silence was worse than the noise.

I pulled back, uneasy.

And then—

A whisper.

“Why are you listening?”

I jumped back so hard I hit the floor.

My heart was racing. My throat went dry.

“That’s not funny,” I said, even though I lived alone.

No response.

But I didn’t sleep that night.

Over the next few days, it followed me.

Bedroom walls.

Living room.

Even the bathroom.

Always faint.

Always there.

Scratch… move… pause.

Like it was tracking me.

Learning my routine.

On the fourth night, I finally recorded it.

I set my phone against the wall and left the room.

When I played it back…

At first, there was nothing.

Then the scratching.

Clearer than ever.

And beneath it—

Breathing.

Slow.

Close.

Too close.

I froze.

Replayed it again.

This time, I heard something else.

A voice.

Quiet. Cracked.

“…you shouldn’t have recorded me…”

I dropped my phone.

After that, it didn’t stay quiet anymore.

It started talking.

Not full sentences.

Just pieces.

Fragments.

“…I remember…”

“…you did that…”

“…you thought no one saw…”

Each word hit like a punch.

Because somehow—

They were true.

Things I never told anyone.

Things I barely let myself remember.

One night, I snapped.

“WHAT DO YOU WANT?” I shouted at the wall.

Silence.

Then—

A slow, dragging sound.

Moving upward.

From the floor.

To the middle of the wall.

Stopping right in front of me.

Then the voice, clearer than ever:

“I want… out.”

The wall cracked.

Just a thin line at first.

Then wider.

Paint peeling.

Something dark inside.

Moving.

I stumbled back, shaking.

“No… no, no…”

A hand pushed through the crack.

Not normal.

Too thin.

Too long.

Fingers bending the wrong way.

It gripped the edge and pulled.

The wall split open further.

And then I saw it.

It looked like me.

But wrong.

Skin stretched tight.

Eyes too deep.

Smile too wide.

It crawled out slowly, joints snapping into place like it was learning how to move.

“I’ve been here a long time,” it said.

Its voice was mine.

Perfect.

“I listened to everything.”

It tilted its head.

“I know everything.”

I tried to run.

But my legs wouldn’t move.

“I remember the things you hide,” it whispered.

It stepped closer.

“I remember better than you do.”

Tears filled my eyes.

“Please… stop…”

It smiled wider.

“I don’t want to stop.”

It leaned in close.

“So I made a deal.”

My heart dropped.

“What… deal?”

The creature pointed at the wall.

Another crack formed.

Then another.

And another.

All around the room.

Inside each one—

Movement.

More hands.

More faces.

More… me.

“They all heard you,” it said softly.

“They all remember.”

The walls started breaking.

Pieces falling away.

Revealing darkness behind them.

Endless.

Alive.

Watching.

Whispering.

I screamed.

And everything went black.

The next morning, the house was normal.

Walls fixed.

No cracks.

No sound.

Nothing.

I stood there, shaking, trying to convince myself it was a dream.

Until I heard it.

Soft.

Faint.

Behind me.

Scratch…

I turned slowly.

The wall was perfectly still.

But the voice came anyway.

From inside.

From everywhere.

From me.

“We’re still here.”

Now I don’t sleep.

Because every night…

The scratching gets closer.

And sometimes—

I feel it.

From inside my chest.

Trying to get out.
