The Vanishing Letter

The Story of A Letter

By Ananya MudgalPublished 2 years ago • 1 min read

Arjun was an ordinary man with an extraordinary secret. Every morning, he followed the same routine—wake up, sip his tea, and check his mailbox. It had been years since anyone had sent him a real letter, but still, the habit remained.

One cold winter morning, a single yellow envelope stood out in the mailbox. There was no sender’s name, no stamp, just his name—Arjun Mehta.

Curious, he tore it open. Inside, a single sentence was typed in an old-fashioned typewriter font:

“At exactly 11:45 PM, your life will change forever.”

His heart pounded. Was this a prank? A threat? Or something else entirely?

Arjun tried to brush it off. But as the day passed, unease settled in. By 11:30 PM, he sat on his couch, staring at the clock, waiting. His house was silent—too silent.

Then, at 11:44 PM, a knock echoed through his apartment. One knock. Two knocks. Three.

His hands trembled as he approached the door. He hesitated—then swung it open.

No one was there.

But on the ground lay another letter, identical to the first. His breath hitched as he picked it up. This time, it read:

“You missed your chance. But don’t worry. We’ll meet again.”

At that moment, his old landline phone rang. He hadn’t used it in years.

With a shaky hand, he answered.

A whisper on the other end sent a chill down his spine:

“Sleep well, Arjun. Next time, don’t ignore the signs.”

The line went dead.

And from that night on, Arjun never received another letter—but he always felt like someone was watching.
