The Unexplained Real Supernatural Event in China - Part Six

Story One:

I have a cousin who was a police officer, and at that time, all police officers carried guns, specifically the Type 54 pistol. He worked in the county but lived in a rural area. So, he would visit home every weekend. One summer night, late in the evening, he was riding his bicycle back home from a neighboring village where he had some work. Since he was a police officer, he had courage, even in the dark rural roads with no streetlights, flanked by tall crops and the eerie sounds of insects.

As he was riding along, he suddenly spotted a person ahead, carrying something. Being sensitive due to his profession, he decided to approach this person. When he got closer, however, the individual disappeared into the field, as if evaporating. My cousin stopped and shouted, demanding the person to reveal themselves, but there was only silence.

Suspicion grew, and my cousin pulled out his gun, placed his bicycle on the road, and ventured into the dense crop field to investigate. Yet, something was not right. Despite the thick crops, there was no rustling or sound of footsteps from the person he had been chasing. It was as though the person had vanished without a trace.

Feeling uneasy, he decided to return to the road. To his shock, his bicycle, which had been left by the roadside earlier, had moved closer to him, seemingly on its own. Perplexed, he stood there, and suddenly, he heard eerie laughter, very close behind him.

Startled and terrified, my cousin swiftly turned around and fired his gun at the source of the laughter. However, his shot hit nothing, and he was left with an unsettling feeling that something supernatural had occurred. Shaken, he got back on his bicycle and hurriedly rode home.

The next day, driven by his profession, he returned to the spot with his younger brother, trying to understand what had happened. They explored the area where he had encountered the mysterious figure but found no clues. Locals in the vicinity, however, mentioned seeing small, one-foot-tall beings in the area during the night.

Story Two:

This is a story my mother told me. She said that when she was around ten years old, people who passed away were not cremated but placed in coffins for the wake.

They lived in a large courtyard where an elderly person had recently passed away. According to customs, a new cotton quilt should be placed underneath the deceased. However, they were quite poor, and they couldn't afford to buy a new quilt. Instead, they used some old cotton pants and clothes from the deceased's grandson to pad the coffin.

My mother explained that in those days, the deceased would be kept at home for three days for relatives to pay their respects. This story takes place on the third day in the afternoon.

When my mother returned home from school, she found a crowd of people gathered in the courtyard. The family of the deceased was in turmoil, and the two daughters were sitting on stools, their faces red with embarrassment. They were repeatedly saying, "What have you done? You've made me neither alive nor dead. The one below says I still have the living aura, and the one above won't let me up. What am I supposed to do?"

This went on for the whole night. Finally, some elderly neighbors suggested that it was because the cotton used beneath the deceased was old and had absorbed the aura of the living person, causing this situation. They had no choice but to replace the cotton with a new quilt.

When they opened the coffin the next day, they found that the deceased's beard had grown several inches long, which terrified everyone. After they replaced the cotton, the two daughters stopped their strange behavior.

These stories leave us with an eerie sense of the inexplicable and supernatural occurrences in rural China.
