Burned spirit

Once upon a time, in the heart of the forest, there stood a tree unlike any other. This tree was not just tall and majestic, but it was also burned to a crisp, its blackened trunk and branches reaching up to the sky like twisted fingers. The locals knew this tree as the Burned One, and they avoided it at all costs, for they believed it was cursed.

But there was one person who dared to approach the Burned One. His name was John, and he was a logger who made a living by cutting down trees. He had heard rumors about the Burned One, but he didn't believe in such superstitions. To him, it was just another tree, albeit a strange-looking one.

One day, John ventured into the forest, his chainsaw in hand. He was looking for a new tree to cut down, and he thought the Burned One would be a good candidate. As he got closer to the tree, he felt a chill run down his spine. It was as if the tree was watching him, waiting for him to make a move.

Ignoring his unease, John revved up his chainsaw and began cutting into the trunk of the Burned One. At first, it was a simple job, but as he made deeper cuts, strange things began to happen. The tree started to creak and groan, as if in pain. And then, without warning, a gust of wind blew through the forest, knocking John off his feet.

As he lay there, dazed and confused, he looked up at the Burned One. To his horror, he saw that the tree was no longer blackened and burned. Instead, it was alive and vibrant, its branches swaying in the breeze. And from within the tree, John heard a voice whispering to him, beckoning him to come closer.

Terrified, John scrambled to his feet and ran as fast as he could, away from the Burned One. But no matter how far he went, he could still hear the voice calling out to him, promising him riches and fame if only he would return and cut down the tree.

For days, John was haunted by the voice of the Burned One. He couldn't sleep, he couldn't eat, and he couldn't work. Finally, driven to madness, he decided to go back to the tree and put an end to its torment once and for all.

But when he arrived, he found that the Burned One was no longer there. In its place stood a towering figure, a being of pure fire and ash, with eyes that glowed like embers. John tried to run, but the being caught him with ease, and dragged him screaming into the flames.

And so, the Burned One claimed another victim, adding John's soul to the countless others that had been sacrificed to its insatiable hunger. And to this day, the locals still avoid the spot where the Burned One once stood, fearing that it might return, and claim more lives in its eternal quest for power and sustenance.
