Tale of the Chosen Ones

“Into every generation a slayer is born: one girl in all the world, a chosen one. She alone will wield the strength and skill to fight the vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness; to stop the spread of their evil and the swell of their number. She is the Slayer."

The timeless tale of a California girl by the name of Buffy Summers. On the outside, a youthful bubbly blonde with a killer smile. But on the inside, a force of nature, with a punch like a Mack truck and a killer instinct. Buffy comes from a lineage of woman mystically chosen to slay vampires and demons.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer aired from 1997 to 2003, but remains as one of the greatest television shows of all time.  The one-hour drama that aired on The WB still stands as a pop culture phenomenon. So now that the nostalgia has set in, let’s begin.

Buffy is not the only Chosen One to grace the small screen and capture our hearts. So join me as I take you on an adventure of recommendations to the land of the chosen ones. The following TV Shows highlight heroes who battle the forces of evil and save the world.

If you’re not looking to travel too far. Two hours away from Buffy’s demonic town known as Sunnydale, California is the City of Angels, also known as Los Angeles. Los Angeles is where Buffy Summers was originally from, but it is where her ex-vampire boyfriend, Angel resides now. And yes, you read it right—he’s a vampire and his name is Angel! The irony of it all, am I right?

The one-hour drama titled ANGEL focuses on a vampire with a soul, slaying soulless vampires & battling the forces of evil in the city. Angel is like most vampires, he has the fangs, the super strength, no reflection, and allergic to the Sun. However, what separates him from his species is his guilt—his conscious— his soul. Cursed with a soul by gypsies over one-hundred years ago, Angel does not bite his prey—he protects them. After dumping Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel moves to Los Angeles and starts a detective agency that investigates supernatural incidents. If Angel saves and protects enough people from monsters and demons, he is prophesied to be turned back into a human. Can he control his bloodlust and fulfill the prophecy? Tune in and see.

Same State. Different City. Three Chosen Ones. In San Francisco, California on 1329 Prescott Street lives three sisters known as the Charmed Ones.

Charmed aired from 1998 to 2006. The one-hour drama follows the lives of Prue, Piper, & Phoebe Halliwell. Three sisters who learn that they’re witches and are destined to battle the ‘Source of all Evil’ and protect the innocent. Each gifted with their own specific super power, the sisters learn how to master magic while attempting to maintain their “normal” lives.

If you like witches, vampires, and the slayer of them all—-then you’ll love TEEN WOLF!

TEEN WOLF is a one-hour drama inspired by the movie itself, but with a chilling twist. The series is about a teenage boy named; Scott McCall who gets bitten by a vicious werewolf and—you guessed it—transforms him into a werewolf as well. However, Scott uses his newfound abilities for good and becomes a self-made chosen one. With the help of his BFF Stiles, they use their brains and fangs to protect the residents of Beacon Hills, California from werewolves, shapeshifters, and humans!

I don’t know what it is about California and their infestation or the supernatural, but I do know there is a Scooby gang of chosen ones destined to destroy them all. So if you like blonde bombshell; Buffy the Vampire Slayer-Summers. You will binge watch the vampires, witches, & wolves—OH MY!!!
