Consider a train that has a reputation for being haunted, with travelers claiming paranormal activity and ghostly apparitions. The protagonist soon learns that they are imprisoned by evil spirits who are out to afflict them and the other passengers as they board the train for what they believe to be a regular trip.

An ancient, rusting train that was abandoned decades ago following an unexplained accident is located deep within a forest. A crew of urban explorers treks into the woods to discover the secrets of the train, despite warnings of its infamous past. They discover a horrifying truth when they explore more of its carriages: the train is haunted by ghosts who are looking for retribution from people who disrupted their last resting place.

There's an abandoned railroad station in the middle of nowhere that isn't marked on any map. When the main character finds it while looking for cover from a storm, he chooses to hold off until the next train. However, when they investigate the deserted station, they learn that it is home to dangerous secrets and a force that opposes their departure.

The Midnight Express is a lonely train that travels through a barren landscape every night, with no idea where it is going. Those that venture on board are caught in an endless cycle and are powerless to break free from the train's hold. Before the Midnight Express takes their sanity—or worse, their souls—the passengers must face their inner demons and worst fears in order to solve the mysteries around it.

On a late-night train, travelers witness a strange figure moving soundlessly among the carriages: a ghostly conductor who appears to be calling them to the front of the train but never says anything. The passengers must learn the identity and dark intentions of the ghost conductor as their curiosity turns to horror.

A signalman watches the rails at a distant railroad crossing because he is troubled by memories of a catastrophic disaster that killed many lives of passengers. It's discovered that the signalman's spectral sightings might be more than just hallucinations when a young engineer comes to help. The two are in a race against time to stop history from happening again as the ghostly signalman foretells imminent disaster.

Groups or communities formed by survivors will almost always have power struggles resulting in disputes over resources, ideology, and leadership. The protagonists' personal problems frequently represent a greater threat to their existence than the walkers themselves, underscoring the vulnerability of human society in the face of disaster.

The passengers are thrust into darkness as the train goes into what appears to be an interminable tunnel. However, as the trip wears on, they come to understand that they are not alone in the tunnel. From the shadows, something is pursuing them, hungry for their dread. The passengers have no choice but to face the terror that lurks in the shadows before it consumes them all.

According to legend, a certain section of railroad is cursed, and anyone who ventures there after dark will perish. Friends who decide to test the rumor by riding a midnight train quickly discover that the curse has unleashed ancient horrors and vengeful spirits, and they must fight for their lives.

However, they come across legions of flesh-eating zombies lured to the train's thundering engines as they travel through the barren terrain. The survivor must negotiate perilous tracks and lethal opponents to reach the final stronghold of humanity—or become just another casualty of the locomotive of the damned—as supplies are running low and danger is hiding around every corner.
