The Lion Didn’t Kill Him… It Waited

In the jungle, death doesn’t chase you… it watches you.

By Alyan khanPublished 6 months ago • 3 min read

Night fell slowly over the jungle, swallowing everything in thick darkness. The air was heavy with damp earth, and the silence felt unnatural—so deep that even the sound of breathing seemed too loud.

Arman tightened his grip on the flashlight.

His jeep had broken down hours ago, leaving him stranded in the middle of nowhere. With no signal and no clear path, he had no choice but to walk. The map in his pocket felt useless now. Everywhere he looked, there were only towering trees and endless shadows.

And a growing feeling… that he wasn’t alone.

“Just a little further…” he whispered to himself.

But his instincts disagreed.

The first sound came softly—a faint rustling, like something heavy brushing against dry leaves. Arman froze. He swung the flashlight around, scanning the darkness.

Nothing.

Just trees. Shadows. Silence.

“Just the wind…” he muttered.

But the jungle didn’t sound like that.

He started walking again—faster this time. His footsteps pressed hard into the ground, his heartbeat rising with every step. His mind screamed one thing:

Get out.

Then he saw them.

On the ground.

At first, he didn’t notice. But when the beam of his flashlight fell directly on them, his blood turned cold.

Paw prints.

Large. Deep. Fresh.

And the most terrifying part—

They were coming toward him.

Then circling him.

As if something had already been walking around him… watching… studying.

Arman’s throat went dry.

“That’s… not possible…”

Slowly, he lifted the flashlight.

And then—

He saw them.

Two eyes.

Floating in the darkness.

Yellow. Glowing. Locked onto him.

Unblinking.

Unmoving.

His body froze. Every instinct told him to run—but he couldn’t look away. It felt like those eyes had trapped him, pinned him in place.

Seconds passed.

Or maybe minutes.

Then—

They disappeared.

Gone.

As if they had never been there.

Arman exhaled sharply. “It’s gone…”

But deep down, he knew the truth.

It wasn’t gone.

It was still there. He kept walking, forcing himself not to look back. But every few steps, he felt it again—that presence, just behind him. Close. Too close.

Then came the sound.

This time clearer.

A low, rumbling growl.

He turned quickly.

Nothing.

But when he looked down—

New paw prints.

Right beside his own.

Closer than before.

His fear turned into panic.

Arman ran.

Branches scratched against him as he pushed forward. The forest blurred around him. His breath came in sharp bursts, his heart pounding wildly.

Run. Run. RUN.

But suddenly—

He stopped.

Right in front of him, the trees opened into a small clearing.

And there—

Something stood.

The lion.

Massive. Silent. Its body barely visible in the darkness, but its eyes—those same glowing eyes—were fixed on him.

It didn’t move.

It didn’t attack.

It just stood there.

Waiting.

Arman slowly stepped back.

The lion took one step forward.

Then stopped.

As if it were… playing.

As if it already knew he had nowhere left to go.

“Please…” Arman whispered, his voice breaking. “Please… don’t…”

No response.

Just those eyes.

Watching.

Time stretched into something unreal.

Every second felt endless.

Arman tried to run again—but his legs failed him. He stumbled and fell hard onto the ground. Cold dirt pressed into his hands.

He looked up.

The lion was closer now.

Close enough that he could hear it breathing.

Slow. Heavy. Calm.

But still—

No attack.

Only waiting.

A thought crept into Arman’s mind.

Why isn’t it killing me?

And then—

The answer came.

It wasn’t hungry.

It was enjoying this.

Enjoying the fear.

The night grew deeper.

Neither of them moved.

Two lives locked in silence.

Then slowly, the lion lowered its head… and sniffed the ground near Arman, as if it could smell his fear.

Tears filled Arman’s eyes.

He shut them tightly.

“God… just end it…”

But nothing happened.

Only silence.

And the suffocating feeling—

That the darkness itself was closing in.

When the rescue team arrived the next morning, they found him.

Alive.

But unmoving.

His eyes were open, staring straight ahead… as if he was still seeing something no one else could.

Around him—

Lion paw prints.

Everywhere.

But not a single sign of an attack.

No struggle.

No blood.

Nothing.

One of the rescuers whispered, “He survived…”

Another slowly shook his head.

“No… he didn’t.”

“He wasn’t killed…”

“He was… made to wait.”

And deep in the jungle—

Far beyond where anyone could see—

Two yellow eyes opened again.
