The Leech Wears the Snail Shell
Waiting to grow back attached

A little snail loved a leech until they realized the leech was eating their worm friends. The snail munched on algae and could not imagine the leech's meal palate. The leech was mad when the snail broke up with them, so the leech took the snail's shell and wore it like it was theirs. They started to do as the snail would do and eat algae even though they thought it was disgusting like a bad salad. The leech ate worms behind closed doors while the snail had to wait to slowly and excruciatingly grow back their shell. They were called the leech and their worm friends turned on them and said that the snail, now called a leech, would eat them.
The snail went around trying to tell others about how this was not true and the leech had taken their identity. No one would believe them, so they went off to enjoy their favorite place which was hanging out by and in volcanos. Their scaly foot stopped them from being burned. The leech could not reach them there because they would disintegrate into the lava. They felt safe for a bit, but soon the leech convinced a fly to buzz over and throw salt over the snail with a note that said: You may not burn by lava, but I will always find a way to burn you anyway! The constant dropping of salt hurt but the snail continued to try and enjoy their volcano happiness anyways, shielding from each salt drop that was destined to come. These flies had been convinced the terrible salt drop was just even though it was fueling the delusions of grandeur and identity thievery of the leech.
The snail was made fun of for isolating themselves from the persisting horrors and mocked for growing the shell that was rightfully for them. The leech would order other insects to try and pull off their shell, but it was difficult because of how attached the shell was to their body. It seemed as if they should try back on the leech what they had ordered for the snail. They then could see that the shell would come right off of the leech for it was poorly attached and worn, yet much of the grasslands still kept siding with the leech at that proof anyways. It was easier to side with the masses and keep your friends than to not indirectly exile and torture another.
There were very few who believed otherwise and it was hard to get those voices over the lies and nonsense belived of and told by the leech. The leech would have other insects watch and buzz over the snail to figure out what they wanted for their life and enjoyed. They gave it to themselves and everyone else while telling others they actually gave it to the snail and was helping them. The snail was very opposite of being helped by the leech. They would believe the snail had a goal and shove in the snails face another insect who seemed to have achieved the goal instead. The snail shook their head for even though the leech was trying to wear their shell, their own assumptions and inserts still got in the way of seeing what the snail really wanted anyways.
The snail wondered why the leech put in so much petty and intense effort at getting back at the snail. The obsession was so sickening as the snail still ventured on through the set up misery they were forced to constantly endure because of the leech, waiting to see if anyone saw what was really happening or if they would let that leech and their closest friends use the benefits of that shell forever.
