The Last Knock at Room 307

The hotel stood at the edge of the city, forgotten by time and avoided by locals. Its sign flickered weakly, as if trying to warn anyone who dared to enter. But for Daniel, it was just another cheap place to spend the night.

The receptionist didn’t speak much. She handed him a rusty key with trembling hands.

“Room 307,” she whispered. “Don’t open the door if you hear knocking after midnight.”

Daniel smirked. “What is this, a horror movie?”

She didn’t answer.

The hallway was long and unnaturally quiet. The lights buzzed overhead, casting shadows that seemed to move on their own. When Daniel reached Room 307, the door creaked open before he even touched it.

Inside, the air was cold.

Too cold.

There was no window. Just a bed, a mirror, and a door to the bathroom. He dropped his bag and lay down, trying to ignore the uneasy feeling crawling under his skin.

Midnight came.

Then—

*Knock. Knock.*

Daniel’s eyes snapped open.

He checked his phone. 12:03 AM.

Another knock. Slower this time.

*Knock… knock…*

He sat up, annoyed. “Who’s there?”

No answer.

He walked toward the door. Just as his hand reached the knob, he remembered the receptionist’s warning.

He laughed nervously. “This is stupid.”

But something felt wrong.

The knocking came again. Louder now. Desperate.

*KNOCK! KNOCK!*

“Open the door…” a voice whispered from the other side.

It sounded like… him.

Daniel froze.

“Open the door, Daniel…” the voice repeated, perfectly mimicking his tone.

His heart pounded. Sweat dripped down his face. Slowly, he stepped back.

“No,” he whispered.

The knocking stopped.

Silence.

Relief washed over him—until he heard something behind him.

From inside the room.

*Knock… knock.*

Daniel turned slowly toward the mirror.

And saw himself… standing behind him.

Smiling.

The reflection raised its hand.

And knocked—from the inside of the glass.

*Knock. Knock.*

The lights went out.

---

The next morning, the receptionist stood quietly behind the desk.

A new guest walked in.

“Do you have a room?”

She hesitated… then handed over the same rusty key.

“Room 307.”

The guest frowned. “Is it safe?”

She forced a smile.

“As long as you don’t open the door after midnight.”

From upstairs…

*Knock. Knock.*
