The House at the Edge of Chandrapur That No One Talks About
A silent village, a forbidden house, and a night that changed everything I believed about reality…
It was late at night, somewhere around 1:40 AM. Chandrapur village was completely silent in a way that felt unusual even for a rural place. Normally, you can hear dogs barking far away, insects making noise in the fields, or at least some movement of wind through the trees. But that night… nothing.
Even the air felt still.
I had come back from Dhaka for a few days to visit my relatives. Life in the city always feels fast and noisy, so coming back to the village usually gives me peace. But that night was different. I couldn’t explain why, but I felt uneasy from the evening itself.
The electricity went out early. My phone had no signal. I was sitting alone in the room when I first noticed something strange outside.
At first, it sounded like footsteps.
Slow… heavy… dragging footsteps.
I thought maybe it was just my imagination. But the sound didn’t stop. Instead, it became clearer. It felt like someone was walking very slowly near the house.
I slowly got up and stepped outside.
The night sky was completely dark, no stars at all. The village looked unfamiliar, almost like it was hiding something. And then I saw it.
At the far edge of Chandrapur, there was an old abandoned house. People in the village never talk about it directly. If someone brings it up, they usually change the topic or walk away. I had heard stories about it since I was a child.
But that night, the house looked different.
There was a faint bluish light glowing from inside.
I stood still for a moment. My first thought was simple—how is that possible? The house has been abandoned for years. No electricity, no residents, nothing.
Still… the light was there.
Something inside me told me to ignore it and go back inside. But another feeling—curiosity—was stronger. I started walking toward the house.
With every step, the surroundings felt quieter. Even the insects stopped making sound. It was like the entire village was watching me, silently warning me not to go further.
But I kept walking.
When I reached the house, I noticed the door was slightly open. Not broken, not forced—just gently open, as if someone was expecting me.
I pushed it slowly.
The wooden door made a long creaking sound and opened fully.
Inside, everything was covered in dust. Old chairs, broken furniture, spider webs hanging from the ceiling like curtains. It looked exactly like an abandoned place should look.
But in the middle of the room… there was something completely out of place.
A kerosene lamp.
It was burning.
No smell of fuel. No movement of wind. Still, the flame was alive, steady, and strangely calm.
I stepped closer.
That’s when I felt it.
A cold presence behind me.
Then a whisper came.
“You finally came…”
I turned immediately.
No one.
The room was empty.
But then I saw a mirror on the wall. It was old, slightly cracked, and covered in dust. Something about it pulled my attention.
I slowly walked toward it and looked at my reflection.
At first, everything seemed normal.
Then I noticed something strange.
My reflection was not copying me perfectly.
It was smiling.
But I wasn’t.
I stepped back immediately. My heartbeat started increasing. The reflection stayed still for a moment… and then slowly tilted its head.
Like it was observing me.
Then it spoke.
In a soft voice.
“I’ve been waiting here for a long time… now you can stay instead of me.”
My body froze.
Before I could react, the lamp behind me suddenly went out.
The room turned completely dark.
But the mirror… was still visible.
And then something impossible happened.
My reflection stepped forward.
Not inside the mirror anymore.
It came out.
I tried to move, to run, to scream—but my body wasn’t responding properly. It felt like something was holding me in place.
The reflection walked closer to me, wearing the same face, the same clothes… but with a smile that didn’t feel human anymore.
And then everything went silent.
I don’t remember what happened after that moment clearly.
But when I opened my eyes again…
I was inside the mirror.
And outside, my reflection was standing in my place, living my life.
Now people in Chandrapur say that sometimes, at night, if you pass near that abandoned house, you can see a man standing inside an old mirror… knocking silently… trying to get out.
But no one ever helps him.
Because everyone knows one thing in Chandrapur—
Some houses don’t just hide secrets.
They take something in return.
