The Dow Hill is a beauty and a beast. Day or night, paranormal activities never cease here. Tourists visiting the place feast their eyes on the natural beauty of the destination, and their ears on the horror tales associated with the haunted sites abounding here.

The cursed forest and the ghost of a headless boy…

The fainthearted should certainly avoid the ‘death road,’ which lies between the Dow Hill Road and the Forest office. The local woodcutters have had a harrowing time watching the headless ghost of a young boy walking and disappearing into the forest. People have reported cases of being followed and constantly watched over by an unseen entity. Some have even seen a red eye peering at them. There is even a ghost of a woman dressed in grey. Such bad is the air of these forests that unfortunate visitors either lost their mental balance or ended up killing themselves.

Jinxed school near the forest…

Here in the woods of Dow Hill where numerous unnatural deaths seem to have taken place in the past, is situated the 100-year-old Victoria Boys High School, which are pervaded by the dark vibes of the haunted forest. The locals have heard loud whisperings and sound of footsteps when the school remains closed during the winter vacations from December to March.

So, acquaint yourself well with the eerie side of Kurseong, and steer clear of the prohibited territories after dark if you go about exploring the beauty of one of the most haunted places in India.

Haunted places in Assam – of black magic and bird suicides

The mystery of the northeast never ceases to enthral us. We are always trying to deduce its beauty, and experience the hidden and unexplored areas. Assam is one such beauty, blessed by the mighty Brahmaputra; this state is the gateway to the rest of northeast. Haunted places in Assam present travellers with mystical opportunities, something exciting and out-of-the-ordinary. Of course not everyone can embark on a journey to the “other world,” but for those of you who are interested; this could be your definitive guide to all haunted places in Assam. But we warn you, tread this path lightly, and at your own risk. This is not for the faint hearted.

First let us introduce the black magic world of Mayong. Mayong, Assam, is one-of-a-kind place for those who are interested in the grim world of horror. Often touted as the Black Magic Capital of India, Mayong is located in Morigaon district of Assam, and is reputed to be a scary place. It is close to Probitora Wildlife Sanctuary, and is easy to reach from Guwahati. The place got its name from the word, Maya, which means illusion, thereby furthering the mysticism that surrounds it. It is said that not too long ago people used to come here from far and wide to learn the art of black magic. Strange tales surround this place, as villagers will tell you some fascinating and magical stories of the dark art. Believing in the power of mantras, these people here believe that anyone who has mastered the mantras can even turn a person into an animal.

You have hundreds of places scattered all across the state, and even more stories of strange incidents. Take Nameri Forest Reserve for instant, as it is known to be a place where you can hear a laughing woman, who also cries out loud. Also, the bamboo grove here in the forest reserve has been known to have some eerie incidents. If you go to Jorhat, you will hear about the Jorhat Gymkhana Club, where the original building is located about 2 km east of the present building. The old building has a reputation of being one of the most haunted places in Assam, as noises, sounds, and scary things are heard regularly during midnight.

Horror has no limits, so it decided to attack a fun and entertaining place as well, as it is in the case of Hahim Picnic Spot. This beautiful place that was supposed to be a place of entertainment has turned into a nightmare for residents of Guwahati who go there for picnics. People have regularly complained about unnatural sounds and events from this place, and this seemingly happy place turns into a horrifying place every evening.

On the face of it, some things do not seem so scary, but it turns into a bizarre incident if they take a ghastly turn. Jatinga Village in Assam is a well-populated village in the Dima Hasao district. But this village experiences something unique and eerie of course. The village is in fact known worldwide as the place where the bird suicides happen on moonless nights. The phenomenon happens at the end of monsoon, when the night is dark with some bit of fog. Taking place between 6 pm to 9 pm, the bird suicides are an unknown and unexplained event. The birds simply fall from the sky unexpectedly, shaking the bones of even the bravest of men. Numerous scientists and naturalists have attempted to solve the puzzle, but none have been successful in providing with the right answer.

Assam is a phenomenally beautiful place, and travelling the length and breadth of this state is something that every traveller aspires to do. But in your journey you may come across some strange and bizarre incidents, which are paranormal by all means. So be careful, and watch where you go!
