The Forgotten Cellar Part 7
Some truths are better left unseen… but now it’s too late to turn back

Part 7: Beneath the Mask
Subtitle: "Some truths are better left unseen… but now it’s too late to turn back."
The air in the chamber felt thick, almost suffocating, as Sarah stood frozen in place. The ancient mask, lying on the table in front of her, seemed to pulse with a dark energy, its strange, intricate symbols shimmering faintly in the dim light. Her heart pounded in her chest as her fingers hovered over the mask, hesitating for just a moment before she touched it. But the pull was too strong, as if the mask was calling her, compelling her to take it.
The moment her fingers grazed the cold metal, a sharp jolt of energy coursed through her body. Her surroundings blurred, and the room seemed to spin around her. For a brief moment, everything went black.
When her vision cleared, Sarah found herself no longer alone in the room. A woman stood before her, her face hidden behind the very same mask. The woman's body trembled, her hands clawing at the mask as though trying to remove it, but the metal was fused to her skin. Her eyes, once human, were now hollow and dark, devoid of life. The woman let out a guttural scream, her voice filled with agony and despair as she collapsed to the ground, the mask still tightly bound to her face.
Sarah gasped, stumbling backward as the vision faded, leaving her once again alone in the chamber. She blinked, her hands shaking as she pulled them away from the mask. Her heart raced, and her mind struggled to process what she had just seen. Was it a warning? A vision of what would happen if she gave in to the pull of the mask? Or was it a glimpse into the past—a moment frozen in time, waiting to be repeated?
The room felt smaller now, the walls pressing in on her. The air was heavy with the stench of decay, and the dim light flickered as if it, too, was struggling to survive in the oppressive atmosphere. She had to leave, had to escape the house before it consumed her, but the door behind her was sealed shut, trapping her inside with the mask.
The walls around her began to shift, the once-stationary stones now rippling as though they were alive. The portraits that had hung on the walls melted away, replaced by dark, swirling shadows. The floor beneath her feet cracked, and from the depths of the house, she could hear the whispers—faint at first, but growing louder with each passing moment.
Sarah backed away from the table, her eyes darting around the room in search of an escape, but there was nowhere to run. The mask still lay on the table, its glow pulsing in rhythm with her racing heart. The pull was stronger now, an almost physical force drawing her toward the mask.
She could feel it in her bones, the connection between her and the house, between her and whatever dark force resided within its walls. The mask was the key—the key to understanding what was happening, and the key to stopping it. But at what cost?
Her mind raced as she weighed her options. She could leave the mask and continue her search for a way out, or she could take it and risk whatever dark fate awaited her. But deep down, she knew the choice had already been made.
With a deep breath, Sarah grabbed the mask from the table, its cold metal sending a chill through her spine. The moment she touched it, the walls of the chamber exploded into chaos. The floor crumbled beneath her feet, and the darkness that had been lurking in the corners of the room surged forward, swallowing her whole.
She screamed as she fell, the world around her disappearing into an endless void of shadows and whispers. The last thing she saw before the darkness claimed her was the mask, glowing ominously in her hands.
