THE ECHOES IN THE WALL
Whispers from the Walls A House that Never Forgot

The old house at the edge of town had always been a place of rumors and whispers. Abandoned for years, its once grand appearance was now swallowed by vines and darkness, its windows like hollow eyes that stared into nothing. No one had dared to live there since the tragic fire that tore through it decades ago, leaving only memories of its past residents — a young family, gone in an instant.
It was a quiet October night when Sarah, a curious college student, decided to visit. She had heard stories of the house but dismissed them as old folklore. Armed with nothing more than a flashlight and her camera, she made her way through the dense overgrowth and reached the front door, which creaked ominously as she pushed it open.
Inside, the air was thick with dust, and the wooden floors groaned under her every step. Cobwebs hung from the corners of the room like forgotten dreams. She snapped pictures, trying to capture the eerie beauty of the place. But there was something... off. A strange coldness lingered in the air, as if the house itself was holding its breath.
As she explored the rooms, a low hum began to fill the space, subtle at first, like the sound of a distant lullaby. It was coming from the walls. She paused, confused. Was it the wind? No, there was no breeze. She moved closer to one of the walls and pressed her ear against it. The humming grew louder.
Then, the whispering began. Soft at first, but then clearer, as though someone was right beside her, speaking in a language she couldn’t understand. Sarah's heart raced. She pulled away from the wall, her flashlight shaking in her hand. The whispers were getting louder, more urgent. The walls themselves seemed to be vibrating, the very foundation of the house trembling with each word.
"Leave... leave..."
The voice was now unmistakable. It was a woman’s voice, thin and strained, as though it had been trapped inside the walls for years. Panic set in. Sarah turned and rushed toward the door, but as she passed the hallway, the door slammed shut behind her with a deafening crash.
The house seemed to close in around her. She felt the temperature drop sharply, her breath visible in the freezing air. The whispers turned into frantic voices now, a chorus of desperate, pleading sounds. She spun around, trying to find the source, but all she could see were shadows dancing in the corners of the rooms.
Then, she saw it — a figure standing at the end of the hallway, just beyond the reach of her flashlight. It was a woman, her long, dark hair matted with ash, her face twisted in an expression of terror. Her eyes were wide, unblinking, as she reached out toward Sarah, mouthing words she couldn’t hear over the cacophony of voices.
"Help me..." the figure whispered, her voice clear now, as though she was standing right beside her.
Sarah froze, terror gripping her chest. The woman took a step forward, her feet gliding eerily across the floor, never touching the ground.
"Help me," she whispered again, louder this time.
And then the walls began to crack.
The ceiling splintered with an awful groan, and from the cracks, more figures began to emerge — shadowy, twisted forms, all wearing the same horrified expression, reaching for her with outstretched hands.
Sarah ran, her footsteps echoing through the house, but it was no use. The house seemed to stretch and twist, the rooms turning into endless corridors. The whispers were now screams, the figures crawling after her, their eyes glowing faintly in the dark.
With a final, desperate cry, Sarah reached the front door and flung it open. The cold night air hit her like a slap, and she stumbled outside, gasping for breath. She turned to look back at the house, its windows now filled with shadows — hundreds of eyes watching her, unblinking, relentless.
And then, as if nothing had ever happened, the house fell silent.
The door slammed shut behind her, and the whispers faded into the night, leaving nothing but the chilling memory of a presence that would never leave.
