I have posted about demons and the devil before but have forgot to do a trigger warning. Some people may find mentions of demons or murder disturbing so reader beware. As always when I cover murders I mean no disrespect to the victim or their family.

The trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson goes by a few names including the devil made me do it and the devil in Connecticut case. It was the first known court case in the United States where the defense tried to prove innocence based on the defendant's claim of demonic possession. The defendant also didn't take any responsibility for the crime. This case was also one of the only murders in this town.

According to testimony 11-year-old David Glatzel had possibly played host to several demons. David's sister (Debbie) had her boyfriend Arne move in with them to help with David. There were a lot of ominous occurrences going on with David.

The family did call a priest who came to bless the home which made the situation worse. Then the priest suggested that the family call the Warrens. The Warrens helped David's family to get the priests to petition the church to have a formal exorcism. There were 4 priest involved in the exorcism. Arne demanded the demons come into him. The process last a few days and then the 48 demons escaped David. At least one demon went into the body of Arne. David, his sister and Arne moved into a property owned by Alan Bono. Some reports said that the possession of David happened after they moved into the house. There were reports that a toy that David had moved across the floor. There was also reports of growling and banging coming from the basement. There was a lot of things went on in the property and it is thought of to be cursed.

A few months later Arne and Alan got into a fight and then Arne stabbed Alan 23 times. According to the testimony the demon was to blame for Arne killing his landlord Alan. After the murder Arne fled and when they found him he was confused. The court didn't believe the possession story. On November 24, 1981, Arne Johnson was convicted of first-degree manslaughter of Alan. He was given 10 to 20 years but only served 5 years.

This case was one of the reasons people called into question the creditability of the Warrens. Ed and Lorraine Warren were paranormal experts and demonologists. Some of their most popular cases include Annabelle, Perron Family (the Conjuring), Amityville Horror and others.

Parts of this story were on Discovery Channel's A Haunting. The episode included Arne Johnson and Debbie Glatzel giving their first hand accounts of the alleged possession. Both of their accounts supported the Warrens claims. This story was also the inspiration for the Conjuring 3. The Conjuring movies are a part of the move universe that includes the Annabelle and the Nun. They also tell the stories of the most famous cases of Ed and Lorraine Warren. There was also a book that told the story of the case. All of the proceeds from the book go to the victim's family.

I hope you enjoyed this look into this case. Paranormal cases that lead into murder are few and far between, when there is one it is interesting to dive into. I may dive into the cases of Ed and Lorraine Warren. If there is a case you want me to dive into my email is on my profile. I will try to cover any and all paranormal cases.
