The Devil Inside Has the Dumbest Ending in Found Footage History

I'm so glad I never saw this movie in theaters.

Have you ever seen a horror movie that felt like a complete waste of time?

The Devil Inside looked so promising in the beginning, but it turned out to be kind of a dud when it comes to found footage horror movies. I’m seen my fair share of bad movies in the found footage genre, but the worst thing that you can ever do is watch a boring film.

The Devil Inside was exactly that.

It had a great concept that was completely lackluster and without any form of excitement. Never have I ever been so bored during a found footage horror movie, and the story that was being shown throughout the film was just alright. The plot follows a young woman who wants to confront her mother in a mental asylum, wanting to know if she was indeed possessed or just insane.

She brings along two young exorcists, to help her with her mother, and it turns out that she is possessed, with four demons inside of her. This plot does sound a bit cliche, but again, I’ve seen plenty of movies with cliche plots, that knew how to deliver the scares and give audiences something they would never forget. Instead, I was met with a soap opera, through the demons that for some reason could not stop taunting one of the exorcists, about his dark past. I think that is the only thing I remember from the movie, because I got so annoyed with this plotline.

This could have been executed so much better, but instead of being viewed as something fascinating and disturbing, I ended up getting so annoyed.

It was obvious exposition to keep the story going, and I got so fed up with watching people get possessed and then taunt the guy about his past. Seriously, this movie’s direction was awful, and I was just wanting the movie to end.

And we do get an ending, but one that had left me so pissed off, like I had wasted my time for nothing with watching this movie. I was curious about the movie’s direction, because toward the end of the movie, the young woman who had returned to find answers with her mother, got possessed. The two exorcists take her away from the mental asylum, determined to help her somehow. While yet again, the demon is taunting one of the men about his dark past, the other one suddenly gets possessed, (I think), and the car crashes.

The movie ends right here.

But wait, we do get a website, asking the audience to go online and learn about the real movie’s ending.

Here’s the problem with this ending.

One, the movie was so boring. You really expect audiences to take the time to go online and learn about the movie’s ending?

The Blair Witch Project did kind of do the same thing when it came to providing material to learn about the characters and their journeys, but at least that film wasn’t boring, and it was actually a scary ride from beginning to end.

The Devil Inside was so damn boring, and I was in complete shock with the way it had ended. Even a family member was watching the movie with me, and she looked at me in confusion, with a mix of annoyance.

“Well, that ending sucked,” she said.

And the worst part was that she wasn’t upset that it had a bad ending, it was because it was so disappointing, and it didn’t lead anywhere.

Why did the director choose to end the movie like this? It’s way too abrupt, and it kind of feels like the director chose to end the movie during the main climax, which is even stranger.

There is such a thing as realistic horror movie endings for the found footage genre, but in this case, it was so poorly done.

The Devil Inside is such a boring horror movie, and thank goodness, I never chose to watch this movie in theaters, or as one of the few options for the month of October, during the spooky season.

I happened to watch the movie randomly on television, and how I was able to get through the film was a miracle, and I regret it to this day, after watching that awful ending.
