The Day the Sky Spoke

The Sky's Warning

By Yassine HamdiPublished 2 years ago 3 min read

In the quiet town of Ruwa, Zimbabwe, the sun rose over the dry, golden savanna as it always did. The children of Ariel School, a small private school nestled on the edge of the bush, chattered excitedly as they prepared for their morning break. It was October 16, 1994, a day that would forever change their lives—and the world.

Among the students was 12-year-old Tariro, a curious and imaginative girl with a love for storytelling. She often spent her breaks sitting under the acacia tree, weaving tales of far-off worlds and magical creatures. Her best friend, Kuda, a practical and skeptical boy, would humor her with a roll of his eyes but always listened intently. That morning, as the bell rang for break, Tariro grabbed Kuda’s arm and dragged him to their usual spot.

“What if today is the day something amazing happens?” Tariro asked, her eyes sparkling.

“Like what? A giraffe learns to talk?” Kuda teased, biting into an apple.

Before Tariro could retort, a strange silence fell over the schoolyard. The birds had stopped chirping, and even the wind seemed to hold its breath. Then, a low hum filled the air, vibrating through the ground and into the children’s bones. Tariro and Kuda exchanged wide-eyed glances.

“Do you hear that?” Tariro whispered.

Before Kuda could answer, a chorus of screams and gasps erupted from the other side of the playground. The children pointed to the sky, where a bright, silver object hovered silently above the trees. It was unlike anything they had ever seen—sleek, disc-shaped, and glowing faintly. Tariro’s heart raced as she grabbed Kuda’s hand, pulling him toward the commotion.

The object descended slowly, landing just beyond the school’s fence in a clearing. A group of children, including Tariro and Kuda, cautiously approached, their fear mingled with awe. As they drew closer, they noticed a figure emerging from the craft. It was tall and slender, with smooth, silvery skin and large, almond-shaped eyes that seemed to hold the wisdom of the universe.

The being raised a hand, and a wave of calm washed over the children. Tariro felt a strange sensation, as if the being was speaking directly to her mind. Images flooded her thoughts—visions of Earth’s beauty, its forests, oceans, and animals, followed by scenes of destruction: polluted skies, barren lands, and war. The message was clear: Take care of your world, or you will lose it.

Kuda, who had been frozen in place, finally found his voice. “What… what is it saying?”

Tariro turned to him, tears streaming down her face. “It’s warning us. About the future. About what we’re doing to the Earth.”

The being stepped back into the craft, which rose silently into the sky and vanished in a flash of light. The children stood in stunned silence, the weight of the encounter settling over them like a heavy blanket.

When the teachers finally arrived, they found the children in a state of shock. Some were crying, others were speaking in hushed tones, and a few, like Tariro, were trying to make sense of what they had seen. The adults dismissed the incident as a mass hallucination or a prank, but the children knew better. They had witnessed something extraordinary—something that would stay with them for the rest of their lives.

In the weeks that followed, Tariro and Kuda became inseparable, united by their shared experience. They started a club at school called “Guardians of the Earth,” dedicated to protecting the environment and spreading the message they had received. Though many adults dismissed their efforts, the children of Ariel School remained steadfast, determined to honor the warning they had been given.

Years later, Tariro became an environmental activist, traveling the world to speak about sustainability and the importance of preserving the planet. Kuda, inspired by the encounter, became a scientist, working on innovative technologies to combat climate change. Though their paths diverged, they remained close, bound by the memory of that fateful day.

The Ariel School incident became a legend, a story passed down through generations. Some believed it was a hoax, others a divine intervention, but for those who were there, it was a profound reminder of their responsibility to the Earth—and to each other.

And so, the day the sky spoke became a beacon of hope, a call to action that echoed across the globe, inspiring countless others to look up, to listen, and to care for the world they called home.
