This is one of the most famous urban legends in Texas. Many people in Texas say that this incident took place in real life. Because of the incidents during the late 19th century and the start of the 20th century, this legend was created. The candy lady mentioned here is Clara Crane. Clara Crane was born in 1891 in Texas, then she was forcefully married to an old man in her teenage years.

She even had a child named Marcella. Due to an accident, that child died when she was five years old. She thought that her husband was the reason behind the child’s death. As a result, she inserted a poison into a candy and served it to her husband. he died due to the effects of the poison. The news spread throughout the country. After some days, she was arrested by the police and investigated by the judges in the court. She said that she did the murder, but she also said that she was unconscious during the murder. So she was sent to a lunatic asylum in North Texas.

She did not disturb anyone at the asylum during her treatment. She even cooperated with any treatment that was given to her. But one thing that scared everyone was that she made a doll out of her torn bedsheet and named her Marcella, after her daughter’s name. She even started talking with the doll sometimes. She also sang a lullaby to the doll, thinking that it was her daughter. Every doctor in the asylum knew about the incidents, but they didn't take a serious note of it as she did not make any scene apart from that. Then, after three years, she was released. As new patients were appointed, the asylum was forced to take away the old patients.

During that period, Clara Crane was also discharged from the asylum. Nobody knew what happened to her after the release; nobody even came to know of her death. It is still a mystery to this day. The urban legend of the candy lady starts here. After four to five years of release from the asylum of Clara Cane, it is said that children from Texas started disappearing. In the following year, nearly eight children disappeared. The people in that region were frightened. When they investigated the children in that region, the children said that when they woke up in the morning, they would find a piece of candy placed on the slab of the window.

They thought that it was placed by their parents to surprise them. But after some days, it even had a note saying "From the candy lady". The people of that region started investigating it. Then they remembered about the lady who used candy to kill her husband to take revenge for her baby. They came to the conclusion that Clara Crane might be the reason behind these events. After some days, a farmer, while digging his land, found some children's teeth. All of the people were frightened, so they took the case to the sheriff of the village.

He too, vanished after accepting the case to investigate. These events scared the people of the village even more. Then, after nearly two weeks, the sheriff’s body was found near a lake. They even found that he was brutally beaten to death and thrown in the bank of the river. During the postmortem, they found some candy pieces in his pocket. The people came to the conclusion that the candy lady was behind the murder of the sheriff too. After these incidents, the legend became famous. These stories are told to children even today in those regions.
