"He...is in every single one?"

She couldn't make sense of it; why was this boy appearing in all of her family's photo albums?

Every.

Single.

One.

A sigh escaped from her trembling lips. She had came up here to escape from her personal hell, not fall deeper into it.

"Can today get worse?"

---+---

Murmurs echoed around the room before it fell silent. The eulogy had taken a turn for the worst as the girl entered the room, her face red and eyes dull, almost lifeless.

"Her mother was a good woman."

"I hope her daughter is alright."

"Do you think she will go insane like Anna did?"

The guests whispers racked her brain as she rushed through the house, past her father and up the stairs into the attic.

Muscles heavy, her body collapsed onto the dusty floor. Her heart felt shattered into a million pieces as tears pooled in the corner of her eyes, threatening to spill onto her cheeks as they had done earlier.

A silent scream left her throat as she held back her sobs; that was until something was gnawing at her conscious and soul, telling the girl to look through the unmarked boxes tucked away in the corner, the very same ones her mother had forbade her from seeing.

"But she isn't here now...is she.."

---+---

A loud crash awoke her, bringing the girl back to reality. Shades of pinks, yellows, and oranges swirled around in the sky outside.

Had it really been hours that she looked through the family albums, staring at the same boy in all the photos?

A cold draft blew across her skin as a heavy silence fell upon the attic.

"What the hell?" Mist floated in the air in front of her, and as she looked towards the floor, the shadows seemed to dance erratically on the hardwood floorboards and the aged walls.

Dread creeped up on her as a cackle sliced through the silence, causing the hairs on the back of her neck to stand on end. "S-stop playing tricks Stephen!" She jumped up, whimpering lowly as she backed up, breath caught in her throat as her heart pounded furiously in her chest.

"I mean it. Ow!" Pain shot through her back as she rammed into the windowsill, pain shooting up and down her spine. Panic set upon her quickly, her grey eyes scanned the room rapidly, hoping, praying, that she was just imagining everything.

For a moment, time froze and everything appeared normal.

Just for a single moment.

Then, a tall figure stepped out of the darkness, disappearing from her line of sight.

And appeared before her, caging her small frame between his lithe one and the jagged ridge of the window.

"N-no, that is impossible!" Her voice was distressed, for before her very eyes, was him, the boy from the pictures!

His amber eyes burned brightly as he stared her down, his chestnut hair glowing from the dying rays of light. A crooked smile erupted across his face as he leaned in closer, whispering, "No one will believe you."
