The Beast in Me is a Great Modern Thriller that Perfectly Mirrors the Work of Alfred Hitchcock
This television show is absolutely amazing.

The Beast in Me is one of the few television shows right now that dared to do something different. I was already familiar with the work of Alfred Hitchcock, and it felt like a breathe of fresh air when it came to The Beast in Me. We follow the story of a struggling writer, named Aggie Wiggs, who is not having the best life. She is having trouble paying the bills for her home, since she no longer has money left over from her last book deal.
It also doesn't help that she hasn't gotten over the death of her son, and she has to face the one person in town that got her son killed.
Her world finally starts to look up when she runs into her new neighbor, an accused killer named Nile Jarvis. They get into a rocky start, but somehow Jarvis finds a way into Aggie's life, and they start to form an odd connection. Then when Aggie expresses her hatred of the young kid who got her son killed, he suddenly goes missing, and Aggie decides to start her own investigation into Jarvis.
She agrees to do a book deal with him, as another way to gain his trust, as she slowly gathers evidence against him. Nile and Aggie start this crazy cat and mouse game, that gets the two of them forming a powerful bond, that leads to an unlikely friendship.
This show perfectly encapsulates Hitchcock's work, when it comes to each of his thriller formulas. We already have an idea who the killer is, which always makes Hitchcock's stories so exciting, as we try to figure out how the hero is going to take down the villain.
What makes The Beast in Me so special is how it focuses so much on the two main leads. We get a really good idea on who Nile and Aggie truly are, and it makes sense how these two were able to get so close with one another. Nile is a full-on sociopath, while Aggie is the unlikely heroine who captures the interest of this monster.
Seriously, Nile was one of the scariest villains I have seen in a long time.
He was accused of murdering his past wife, and his family attempts to help save his image from the public, as they scramble to control his behavior. Nile was a reckless monster who was secretly a serial killer the entire time, and the only reason why he got away with murder for so long was due to his family's protection. They were so worried about ruining their legacy, so they were willing to protect Nile's crimes, making each of them complicit in all of his crimes.
I got so mad as I was watching the show, because even though his father and uncle expressed remorse over his victims, they still refused to turn in Nile, to protect their image among the public's eyes. I struggled to even feel any sympathy for any of his family members, knowing that they were willing to keep him safe instead of giving the families closures for all the innocent people he murdered over the years.
The buildup to the finale is awesome, and the chemistry between the two main leads is amazing, and it's magic every time they are sharing the screen together.
It was a bit of a shame that some fans weren't a fan of The Beast in Me, but I think it had to do with the fact that some of them weren't familiar with Alfred Hitchcock's past films. This show uses the same ideas that Hitchcock used for his films, and the execution is amazing!
The Beast in Me is a triumph, and is one of the best thriller shows I have seen in a long time!
