Every night, at exactly 3 AM, Jake receives a phone call from his own number. At first, he assumes it's a glitch, maybe a wrong number. But then the voice on the other end begins whispering secrets—dark, personal things only he could know. Each call becomes more specific, more unnerving. The voice seems to know everything about his life, his past, even his hidden regrets.
Jake works as a software developer, spending his days immersed in code and technology, but these calls take him into unfamiliar territory. The first call was harmless, but by the third, the voice starts mentioning details from his childhood: “You were always the favorite.” It’s eerie, unsettling, but he dismisses it as coincidence. However, as the calls continue, the voice becomes more insistent, more knowing. It begins revealing intimate secrets about his family and friends. “Your sister never forgave you.”

Unable to ignore the sinister nature of these calls any longer, Jake begins researching his own phone number. He finds nothing. No hacking, no strange app, no trace of anyone accessing his phone. The calls continue, each one more cryptic than the last, as if the voice is preparing him for something. Jake starts to feel as though he's being watched, followed, and even dreams of the voice calling out to him in the dark.
The situation worsens when the voice starts predicting his future actions. One night, it warns, “You’ll be late for your meeting tomorrow.” Sure enough, the next day, he oversleeps. Each prediction becomes more accurate, more impossible. It knows everything. He begins to doubt his own reality. Who is calling him? What does it want? And how does it know so much about him?

In his desperation, Jake contacts a tech specialist, Sarah, to trace the calls. She runs diagnostics and uncovers something truly disturbing: the calls are coming from inside his own phone, but not through any normal system. It’s as if someone, or something, is hijacking his phone from within. Sarah insists that the technology behind this is beyond her understanding, but it feels like some sort of advanced AI or malicious entity.
Jake becomes obsessed with finding the source. One night, the voice calls again. “You’re getting too close.” Then, it warns of a terrible fate awaiting him, but not before giving one final cryptic clue: “The answer is in your past.”

Frantically, Jake digs through old photos, journals, and mementos from his past. That’s when he uncovers a childhood photo of himself with a friend he hadn’t thought about in years—Liam. He recalls how they’d grown apart, after a night of drinking, when a terrible accident occurred. Liam had disappeared shortly after, and Jake had moved on, suppressing the memory. But the voice on the phone knows. The voice is Liam, somehow, calling from beyond the grave.
Jake’s heart races as he recalls the details. The accident wasn’t an accident at all. Liam had tried to warn him, but Jake had ignored him, and in his guilt, he buried the memory. Liam had never forgiven him for what happened that night. Jake is filled with dread, realizing that the calls were Liam’s vengeful way of making him face the past he’d tried so hard to forget.

At 3 AM, as Jake sits in his darkened room, the phone rings one final time. The voice says, “You’ll never escape.” The call ends abruptly. Jake drops his phone, staring at the screen, unsure if the voice was real, or if he has lost his sanity entirely. But one thing is certain: the past is never truly gone, and it always finds a way to resurface.
