In A24’s latest horror film, this time coming from Australian YouTube sensations Danny and Michael Philippou, Mia (Sophie Wilde) is still coping with the loss of her mother (Alexandria Steffensen) when she and her friend Jade (Alexandra Jensen) are forced to drag Jade’s younger brother Riley (Joe Bird) to a party. When partygoers bring out a mummified hand that can supposedly be used to communicate with the dead using temporary possession, Mia gives it a try. While she’s initially freaked out, she ends up loving the experience, and it becomes her drug of choice. But things go horribly wrong after Riley tries it, and the spirits start reaching out unprompted.

The small town of Willowbrook had always been known for its quiet charm and friendly atmosphere. But that all changed when the new McDonald's opened its doors on the outskirts of town. The centerpiece of this franchise was a massive animatronic mascot—an oversized, grinning clown named Chuckles.

Jayasaktian RamalingamPublished 9 months ago in HorrorThe Hills Have Eyes (1977)
The Hills Have Eyes is the late Wes Craven's third film (right behind something I've never heard of called The Fireworks Woman) from his masterful, groundbreaking first film, The Last House on the Left (1972), a film with social commentary and subtext a mile long, but one generally derided or even hated as being a misogynistic and sickening mess. (It's a whole helluva lot better and deeper than that, I can assure you, and I've got a whole essay about that you can read here: "The Castle and Krug".) Craven's most famous film is, of course, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and its resultant sequels and spin-offs and remakes, etc. He was a horror legend in Hollywood, and his brand was sterling when he tragically passed on.

Wrestling NostalgiaPublished 9 months ago in HorrorTerror in the Aisles
Terror in the Aisles is a 1984 anthology film starring Donald Pleasance and Nancy Allen narrating a bunch (and I mean a bunch) of horror movie clips from the Seventies and Eighties. or, mostly so. There's a wrap-around segment of them in a theater with a curiously multicultural bunch of moviegoers who are portrayed, weirdly enough, as obnoxious and unlikable. (What were the producers trying to say there?)

So it’s a mid-August night in the summer of 2003. My mom, her boyfriend, my sisters and me are all on our way to the only two movie theaters they have in Chapel Hill where we live at. Our plan is to see the long awaited and highly anticipated film Bad Boys 2. We went to the first theater, The Timberline, and it was all sold out. We went to second theater, The Plaza, and it was also sold out there as well. We were disappointed because we were really looking forward to seeing the movie, but since we couldn’t my mom and her boyfriend Leroy suggested we might as well just see something else instead. Now I forget who exactly said something first, but what I do remember is my sister and Leroy suggesting that we see the also long awaited and highly anticipated slasher crossover film Freddy vs Jason.
