Halloween 2 (1981)
Halloween 2 is a film that starts smack dab in the place where Halloween left off: with Michael Myers getting blasted by Dr. Loomis's (Donald Pleasance) six slugs off of a balcony and out onto the lawn...and disappearing. As such, it almost feels like a weird, half-completed series of outtakes or "leftovers" from the original. There's a sense that we're just hanging -on" here, not building to anything.

THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CHILDREN
"There's Something Wrong with the Children," the latest film by Roxanne Benjamin, was released on digital and MGM+ recently, four days after a big horror drop day. Despite having interesting ideas, the film is marred by its poor execution. The movie takes too long to get to any exciting parts and rushes through some of its best moments, ultimately leading to the downfall of the film in its final scenes. The behavior of the characters in the final scenes feels unrealistic and unconnected to human behavior.

The invitation movie review
JustWatch powers the latest film, "The Invitation", which unfortunately fails to deliver on its initial promise. Despite the director Jessica M. Thompson creating a suspenseful atmosphere, the visual effects come across as disjointed and detract from the experience. The twist, when it finally comes, feels underwhelming and the trailer gives away too much. The standout performance comes from Nathalie Emmanuel, who plays the protagonist, Evelyn. The "Game of Thrones" actress exudes naturalism, making her character relatable. After receiving the results of a DNA test and discovering a new family in England, Evelyn finds herself in the midst of a strange and unsettling family gathering. Although the film touches on the racial implications of Evelyn's discovery, it fails to delve deeper into the topic. The costume design, by Danielle Knox, is a highlight and provides some relief from the disappointment of the film's abrupt shift from suspense to comedy. Overall, "The Invitation" offers a mediocre moviegoing experience, with only Nathalie Emmanuel's performance and the stunning costume design providing some redeeming qualities. It is now playing in theaters. In the lazy days of summer, finding the right movie to watch can be a challenge. However, one film that you might want to skip is "The Invitation". Despite having a promising start with an eerie mood set by director Jessica M. Thompson, the film ultimately falls short in delivering a satisfying experience. Nathalie Emmanuel shines as the lead character Evelyn, or Evie, who is a struggling New York artist and catering waitress. After taking a DNA test from a swag bag, she discovers she has a group of British cousins, leading her to attend a family wedding in the English countryside. The film touches upon the racial implications of this connection, but fails to delve deeper into the topic. Evie's friend Grace, played by Courtney Taylor, is appropriately cautious of the situation, but Evie is drawn to the sense of belonging. Despite some peculiarities, such as the uniformed maids with numbers and the condescending butler, the hunky Walter adds an element of charm to the three-day festivities. Unfortunately, the film relies too heavily on cheap jump scares, leading to a sudden shift into a sillier, campier territory. This shift is not only jarring, but also uninspired as it revisits familiar material. Despite this, the costume design by Danielle Knox is fabulous, making Nathalie Emmanuel look great in every scene. "The Invitation" is currently playing in theaters, but be prepared for a mediocre moviegoing experience.

Reed Alexander's Horror Review of 'Life' (2017)
You know, I get that this movie is very similar to a low-tech Alien (1979), but they are two distinctly different movies, and while there are many similarities, they are not the same. So I'm not really going to get on the bandwagon of calling this an Alien Knockoff, tempting as it is. I think, while this movie is nowhere near as good as Alien, it clearly stands out on its own with its own merits. And, to be fair, Alien is still my all-time favorite movie.
