THRILLING HORROR STORY

Five close friends, Andy, Eden, Kit, Em, and River, plan to spend their New Year's vacation in the remote skiing destination called Snow Falls. The group consists of Kit, the prankster; Em, the girl who is always concerned with her stomach; Andy, Kit’s partner in crime and Em’s boyfriend; River, his parents’ obedient son; and Eden, the nerd of the group, who recently lost her mother. Eden is the most mature person of the group, always trying to maintain a healthy balance between fun and seriousness. The trip is meant to lift her spirits because she recently lost her mother.

Everything seems fine at first, but suddenly, they hear the news that two back-to-back blizzards are coming towards Snow Falls, and they will be stuck there for some time. When the blizzard arrives, the power goes out, and the generator stops working. They light the fireplace to stay warm, but they run out of food and wood in the next two days, and the situation worsens. Eden understands that if they do not take action, hypothermia will soon set in.

She advises everyone to keep alert at all times and urges them to ration their food, warning that if someone gets cold and falls asleep, they may not wake up again. However, they begin to experience the symptoms of sleep deprivation and start hallucinating. Kit and River relate their mental and physical breakdowns to the snow and claim that it might be contaminated with a virus. Eden and Andy refute their claims and suggest that their only issue is a lack of sleep.

Em goes missing, and they find her outside in the snow without any warm garments. Andy rescues her and tries to make her warm, while River and Andy make a plan to siphon gas from the car to turn on the generator. When River takes too long, Andy goes outside to find him and discovers that River has spilled all the gas out, saying that they can't let the virus contaminate others, so they have to die there.

Angry with this, Andy beats River and takes him back home. Eden calms River down, and a remorseful River apologizes. Meanwhile, Em goes missing again and hallucinates about vomiting snow. Out of paranoia, she slits open her belly. Eden tries her best to stabilize her with first aid, but they need to transfer her to the hospital soon. In an effort to ignite the fire, a helpless Andy begins to chop down an antique wooden table. River objects to this, and as a result of their argument, he accidentally kills Andy.

Em picks up the axe Andy was using to chop down the table and tries to murder River. Eden intervenes just in time to stop her. Eden and Kit plan to go out to get help, and they agree that it is a risky thing to execute. In the night, Em hallucinates about the remaining gas of the car and tries to get there to start the heater of the car. She successfully gets there and starts the car, seeing that Andy is waiting there for her (which suggests that all of these are just her hallucinations).

River and Eden go out to find Em, and they find her body inside the car. Eden becomes shattered by this, and River calms her down. The next day, they set foot on the snow to get help and find Kit's naked body lying on the snow along the trail. Eden explains that it is known as “Paradoxical Undressing,” in which individuals remove their clothing to quench their internal fire while remaining chilly in reality. The story ends with Eden and River walking towards the distant light, hoping to find help.

In the closing scene, a police officer arrives to save Eden and River. They sit on the porch of their cottage, hoping that everything will be okay now. However, the officer asks Eden if there are any survivors inside, to which she responds that only she and River made it out alive while everyone else is dead. But as she turns to face River, it becomes clear that he is not there. At this point, we realize that River has passed away and Eden is simply hallucinating him.

One of the most perplexing aspects of the film, in my opinion, is how the cop suddenly appears to rescue them. This raises the question of whether Eden is also hallucinating about the officer's arrival. The film establishes early on that sleep deprivation is causing people to react in strange ways as a precaution against hypothermia. Therefore, it is plausible that Eden is also experiencing hallucinations due to lack of sleep. Moreover, an earlier incident where she hears her phone ringing even though it is dead further supports this theory.

Taken together, all the evidence points towards the officer's arrival being a figment of Eden's imagination, and she is still stranded in the snow.
