I was about 6 or 7 at the time. I remember this night vividly because of what I saw. It was a dark and cold night. I don’t exactly remember the day, or what season it was but it was a school night. I was still a kid as mentioned in the beginning of this story. I lived with my mom, her siblings and my grandma. My grandma had raised me since birth because my mom was young when she had me. My grandma was disabled. She had always been in a wheelchair for as long as I can remember. I knew if she was getting up in the middle of night because the sound her wheels made. It was sinister almost, while everything else was silent.
My grandmas house was a 2 story house, an upstairs and a downstairs. I slept downstairs with my grandma on the sofa and she slept on a recliner. We had always slept downstairs alone, while everyone else was asleep upstairs. That night I had just took a bath and was now getting ready for bed, it was about 9:30ish. And as usual, my grandma said our night prayers before we would sleep. Now, my grandma was a night owl. I knew she would wait for me to fall asleep after prayers to watch tv. I didn’t mind, I liked knowing she was there at all times. But this night was different. I said, “goodnight“ to my grandma as I drifted off to sleep. I woke up and it was dark. My grandma would always leave her lamp on for me just in case I would wake up. But something felt wrong.. as if she wasn’t there. The tv wasn’t on and neither was her lamp. I sat up on the sofa and looked around. And from the corner of my eye, I seen it. My grandma was wide eyed, looking dead at the steps that led upstairs. I screamed. My mom and her siblings came running down the steps. I stood up on the sofa crying and afraid. But then, the lights started flickering on and off. Again and again. My moms brother grabbed a bible and started praying. Looking back at my grandma, her eyes are rolled back and all I can see now is white. The lights are flickering and my moms brother is screaming prayers, and my grandma is not responsive. All of a sudden everything and everyone stops. The light over the steps turns on, as if it was a candle being lit. My grandma slowly points her finger towards the steps, as if someone or something was there. I turn my head a little bit and can see from the corner, a tall white figure with a smile so frightening it stretched from the left side of it’s face to the right side of its face. It smiled with its hands supporting its chin on the railing of the steps. It laughed as the lights started flickering on and off. My grandma starts yelling stuff in gibberish and starts becoming physically violent. My mom and her siblings try to get a hold of her. The figure on the steps walks down at least 3 steps to the front door, opens it slowly, smiles... looks back and slams the door on its way out. As soon as it leaves, everything is silent. The lights turn on and my grandma seems to be normal now. My mom and her siblings make sure she is okay but all I can do is stare at the steps. That face, that figure... that smile. Will forever be burned into my memory. I’m 18 now and my grandma passed away in 2009. We never called the cops and we never spoke about what happened that night until today. Whatever or whoever that was, I hope to never see you again.
