Every bar has it's ghost story. Makes sense when you think of it, they are full of spirits. Haha, get it, you know, booze, spirits. There are some people who don't drink at all out of fear of being filled with a spirit. There are practitioner's who refuse to practice magic while intoxicated because the barrier between the living and the dead becomes so thin. There are others who offer liquor on their alters to appease the spirits of the dead. I'm going to tell you a story that may make you think the next time you are in a bar drinking and the music is playing. It's the story of a body borrower. You may hear some people in those polite circles of love and light refer to a similar experience as "channeling." If it's ok for us to accept Abraham Hicks and Sylvia Browne's Francine, see how you feel about accepting Smerlina.

The legend goes that Smerlina was a beautiful young woman born to Irish Immigrants. Her mother was a fan of The King Arthur Tales and named her after Merlin the magician. She was raised in the North of America traveling with her parents from factory town to factory town. Her parents were not very good at following rules or paying bills, so they lived in a stage coach caravan. The caravan was pulled by a pure black mare named Boris, that has died 11 times. Every time the mare dies Smerlina's mother brings him back to life. She says its not very hard when you know where the dead run off too. She simply lays down on the Earth and finds her mare and returns him to his body. Smerlina asked her mother once how old Boris is and where he came from. Smerlina's mother told her that none of that matters, and if she tells her the mere act of saying such an Earthly blasphemus thing outloud would change the magic that allows it to exist. One day when she passes, Boris her mare will pass also and Smerlina will just have to accept that.

Living as Knackers, the Irish term for travelers was well enjoyed by Smerlina and her family. Her mother made and sold remedies from herbs and roots. Her Dad was quite the musician, well liked at the pubs and music halls in the places they visit. Both her parents were a bit famous in their own rights. Her mom as a healer and her Dad for both his singing voice and the fact that he could play any instrument handed him. Smerlina asked her father once where his amazing music abilities came from to which replied, "I never thought to ask, only use to them."

Smerlina and her mother loved to dance and her Dad played them every new song first. Often after dinner out in the woods off of some road her father would play for them and his two favorite ladies would dance the night away. The two of them would do the same in the bars and the music parlors, dancing around with the audience and enjoying the freedom of their lifestyle.

The family was also a delivery service for the people who were stationary, often carrying things between the different towns. This was a fruitful business for them. As it often happened payment was that of food or other bartered items. The family lived in a stage coach caravan but their bellies were never empty and their creativity never drained out of them by routine.

One day after witnessing a fight in a bar that ended with a man stabbed to death Smerlina asked her mother "where do the dead go when they leave their bodies?" Smerlina's mother replied that here in this land some of the Natives believe the spirit world is only about three feet above this one, that's why you can travel from there to here, it's not that far at all. "Mom, where do you believe people go when they die?" Smerlina asked again. "Out of their bodies Smerlina, not far, and I'll tell you a secret, some even go into other people's bodies." This greatly caught Smerlina's attention. "Oh please tell me more she begged." "Well when you leave your body you no longer need to eat, or do any of the things a body does, because in the spirit world there is no need too, so sometimes a dead person will seek out the body of a live person so they can enjoy being alive again. For a little while." "And the spirit can move the other person's body? and feel inside the other person's body?" Smerlina asked in order to make sure she understood. Smerlina's Mom replied "yes, the spirit can taste and drink and feel and dance while the person whose body it is, just isn't for awhile." "How long can it happen for? When does it happen? And what if something happens to the body before the owner is there again?" Smerlina wanted to know everything. "How long depends, when depends and the body is still a body no matter who is working it. If the spirit trips the body will bruise, if a spirit eats something a body doesn't approve of the body will react accordingly..... you've seen people with spirits not their own inside of them before Smerlina, it happens easily when people drink too much. Spirits seeking some time back here will often hang around where bodies are easily taken over. But that's not the only way, some people will invite spirits in like the Shamans we have met. The people who get taken over have no memory of what took place while their body was being borrowed by the Spirit."

One night while Smerlina's father was playing piano and singing at a pub Smerlina grew tired and went to the caravan to sleep. In the morning she looked at Boris and he was lying on the ground without any breath in him. Smerlina grew frightened and started calling for her parents who never returned to the Caravan the night before. She frantically ran inside the pub where she saw her father lying face first on the piano. She moved closer to him and noticed a large red hole in his back. He had been shot and murdered while playing and singing, most likely he had no idea what happened to him. As Smerlina looked around there were many other dead bodies on the floor of the pub. She remembered what her parents always told her about gunshots "If you hear them stay put, never go searching for them." She tried to recall if she had heard any the night before, maybe she could recall the moment her father died. No, inside the Caravan is made to keep noise out, it was designed that way for her, so she could sleep no matter where they were.

Smerlina started calling for her mother as her eyes were searching through the dead bodies. She heard muffled sounds coming from a back room, as she started to move in that direction she heard a loud scream of "shut up woman" followed by a gun shot. She froze and thought of her parents warning, she thought she could just fall to the ground she would look like all the other dead bodies and no-one would notice her. She did not listen to her thoughts or to her parents voice as they rang in her head "STAY PUT!" But instead her feet moved her to where the muffled sound and gunshot occurred. She saw a woman through the crack of the door. She was tied to a bed. A man was standing above her fixing his pants, he turned back to stare Smerlina dead into her eyes. She scram, a loud, soul penetrating, nightmarish scream, that shook the walls and creaked the floorboards. It did not shake the man though, instead his eyes squinted he picked the gun up off of the woman, which is where he had thrown it after murdering her. He pointed the gun right at Smerlina who was shaking the Earth, the heavens and hell with her pain, and he pulled the trigger that opened her chest and silenced her.

As Smerlina's body hit the floor, her spirit stayed just as it was staring into that room. Smerlina had thought the woman in the bed was her mother. When she realized she was no longer in her body, that she no longer had legs to move and her world was now three feet above the ground, she floated to look her mother in the face. Only it wasn't her mother. She thought of how she had seen Boris dead on the ground and that her mother must have died earlier, so she went back to searching for her.

Smerlina can not turn bodies over. She cannot touch or grab or feel with her physical body because she is not in one anymore. She feels the pain of death for herself and her family, but you don't need a body for that. She wondered if she could see other dead folks, be reunited with her parents. She floated all around the bar looking for her Mom's body or either parents soul. "It's not far at all," she remembered her Mom telling her.

Smerlina entered the alley behind the bar. On the ground laid a woman's body face down with a shimmering image in the same dress floating without legs not far above her. "Mom!" Smerlina cried. The image turned toward her and said "no,no,no,no,no, I don't want you here Smerlina, go back, go back to your body!" "I can't, a man shot it." She told her mother. "Well, it looks as if neither of us are going back, did you walk toward the gunshots?" Her mother asked while lowering her eyes cleary stating she knew the answer already. "Yes" Smerlina answered looking away. "Oh dear girl, come here, and let's find your father."

The family was re-united and are now in the spirit world, about 3 feet above the ground. They still visit pubs and dance halls. They learned the trick of body borrowing. You can be invited in as Smerlina's mom is often called on by covens and practitioners where her knowledge of herbs and healing is required. Smerlina's Dad likes to borrow the bodies of musicians and perform again, they tend to drink alot and make body borrowing very easy. Plus, her Dad gives such a grand performance that even though they do not remember they are received with such high praise after, they don't question where they went as it was happening.

Smerlina's first body borrow was the man who killed them all. Her parents warned against the act of vengeance, but Smerlina was young and angry. She entered his drunken body one night and jumped out of a second story window. It was not high enough for him to die, but it twisted his spine and he could no longer walk. She enjoyed seeing him in great pain and that enjoyment eased her own, or at least until she entered him again to hurt his body which she did often. For a long time she would not hurt him enough to kill him, just burn him, or break something. He never did learn to stop drinking and eventually she took pity on him and flipped his wheel chair into a horses troth face first. She stayed in his body until just before the last gullop of water filled his lungs and then she left so he could experience the suffocation.

After sometime in the after life of Smerlina's Mom helping people and her Dad rippling musical vibes into the atmosphere, the elders of the spirit world came and took them to the next place. Her mother and father begged for them to take Smerlina too, but they did not and she was left without them in the space just three feet above the ground where it's so close to here.

Smerlina had picked up a liking for torture while placing revenge upon her murderer. Since being left to roam the bars and music clubs alone she also became bitter and spiteful towards men. If a man harassed a woman while drunk he may find himself upon waking in a very unpleasant position. One man nailed his own hand to a wall. When the doctors asked "why?", all he could say is he didn't remember. Another man who had been caught showing his private parts to young ladies awoke to both his hands severely cut open, and terrible bumps upon his head with no recollection of how he got that way. When he was healed enough to go back to the bar where it had occurred, they said he broke a bottle over his head and jammed the glass into his hands while screaming "I'm a nasty man." He figured he punished himself and was grateful that it was his hands rather then his privates and discontinued his behavior.

Smerlina has not become all mean and she really misses her body. Sometimes she enters people just to taste again. She found she enjoys smoking. Even though she was not yet fully into puberty when she passed, she has tried sex, well, the only way she can, borrowing a body. Sometimes she'll stick around the person whose body she's borrowed to see how they react. She even has a couple of favorite women who just figured they blacked out and danced all night. Smerlina thinks they are beautiful and is not jealous they have a body. She has bodies too, and she doesn't have to settle for just one. She never has to be sick or stick around through a period. Smerlina has no physical discomforts she doesn't chose and is quite content in her life as a body borrower.

Have you met Smerlina? No, of course not. You met Judy, or Jake, maybe your friend Brandon one night got drunk and grabbed your boob and later that evening you caught him banging his head into a wall. Maybe you asked your friend "what happened last night?" And she told you how you looked like you were having so much fun dancing, yet you don't remember a thing past that last shot you took. Have you woken up with bruises that you don't remember getting? Or in someone's bed you don't know and can't remember how you even met them? Well, you were just drunk, right? That happens, that's logical, or, were you taken over by a spirit who misses their body and borrowed yours.
