The name of this legend is Hachishakusama. The meaning of this name is "eight feet tall." Hachishakusama is an eight-foot tall girl. There are many stories told regarding this urban legend, but the origin of this legend is not known clearly. This legend is told based on only one Japanese village. According to legend, Hachishakusama is a monster who kidnaps small children. Facts about Hachishakusama are told briefly in the story itself. There are two stories told with slight variations based on hachishakusama. We will take a look at one of the stories.

An eight-year-old boy visits his grandparents for a vacation from the city, which is only located very nearby. His parents went back after dropping him off at his grandparents' house. One day, when he was playing in the backyard of the house, he heard some noise. That noise started increasing as the time passed on. The boy started searching for the source of the noise. He noticed a white colored hat placed on a wall. While he was looking at it, the hat started moving.

When he noticed that he saw a tall lady looking over him from there, He was surprised while looking at the height of the woman. After some time, Hachishakusama left the place. The noise also started to reduce as the lady left. Then the boy thought of informing his grandparents about this incident. While he went inside the house, he saw their grandparents doing their jobs. While the boy started telling the story, the grandparents were shocked. Then they started to question him about the appearance of the woman.

Though the boy was irritated, he answered the questions raised by them. After the answer, the grandpa started calling someone. The grandma sat near the boy with fear. She started sweating from head to toe because of the fear. The grandpa was also urgently heading out. The boy asked his grandpa about the urgency. The grandfather said that his grandmother would answer the questions and left. Then the boy started raising the same questions to his grandmother. The grandma then began telling him about the lady's entire life.

She said that the name of the lady is Hachishakusama, who would kidnap small children. She even added that during the old days, this monster did the same activities. Later, after doing several rituals, they were able to lock it inside a temple. But recently, there have been rumors that this monster is free. Grandma said that those were not rumors; they are free now. She even said that it will surely come in search of you tonight. We must save you from that monster at any cost. Later, the grandfather came in with another person.

They both went upstairs and started making all of the arrangements that would keep him safe from the monster. After some time, the boy was taken upstairs. There, every corner was filled with salt in a cup. There was a Buddha statue at the center of the room and some magical words behind it. The grandparents warned him that he should not leave the room till seven in the morning at any cost. They also added that he should ignore any noise that comes from the outside of the house. The boy had been watching television for some time, but he started sleeping while watching the show itself.

Later that night, he started hearing the same noise he heard in the morning. He even heard the noise of someone scratching the wall and doors of the room. After some time, he even heard his grandmother calling him, but he did not open the door because of the instructions that he heard during the evening. He even saw the salt turning black, so he started praying. Then, after seven in the morning, his father was waiting to pick him up. Then he never visited the village ever again in his life. This story somewhat resembles the Slenderman story, which is famous in the United States.
