Alice in Wonderland is a strange tale written by Lewis Carroll about a young girl named Alice and her wonderful adventures in Wonderland. Walt Disney took this story and made in into an animation with some unforgettable songs and characters making it a fantastic movie. Though not as frightening as other Disney movies Walt left his mark on this film with a few creepy details.

1. The Walrus and the Carpenter

2. The Cheshire Cat

3. The Queen of Hearts

1. The Walrus and the Carpenter

The sequence The Walrus and the Carpenter is from the original book, Walt decided to put this into his film and made it just as creepy as the original tale. Alice bumps into Tweedledum and Tweedledee in the forest who recite a poem to her, the story of The Walrus and the Carpenter. One night when walking on a beach when the sun and moon are in the sky together, The Walrus and the Carpenter come across a bed of oysters. The oysters follow the Walrus and the Carpenter and are eaten by them both.

In Walt’s version the Walrus and the Carpenter they go into the sea to collect the oysters, the carpenter builds a small restaurant where the oysters follow them to. The Walrus sits around a table with the oysters around whilst the carpenter is in the kitchen making soup to soak the oysters. The Walrus becomes greedy and eats all of the oysters, the Carpenter sits down at the table and realises they are all gone, he becomes angry and chases the Walrus out of the restaurant with a hammer.

Unbeknownst to the Carpenter, the Walrus ate all of the oysters. What a greedy Walrus. Though the Carpenter wanted some of the oysters as well, it was the Walrus who was the greedy one. The smile on his face says everything we need to know. The poor innocent oysters sat there thinking they were going to get a nice meal, they unfortunately were the meal. Justice was finally served at the end when the Carpenter chased him out the restaurant with a hammer.

2. The Cheshire Cat

The Cheshire Cat. The second creepiest character in the movie. His entrance is unforgettable. His voice is heard before he is seen, his smile erupts from nowhere, his eyes dance up and down and then his purple and pink body is finally revealed. A weird, creepy and suspicious looking cat. Alice at this point in the film is lost, she asks him for directions so he sets to confuse her by pointing in every direction. Very unhelpful for Alice which confuses her even more. He then disappears into nothingness and Alice walks down a path and comes across a tea party with the Mad Hatter and The March Hare.

After the tea party Alice decides she wants to go home, unfortunately for Alice her surroundings change and she becomes lost. She sits on a rock crying and conveniently, the Cheshire Cat appears from nowhere. Like his entrance, his smile appears before he does, making him look the creepy cat once again. This time he advises her to see the Queen of Hearts for a route home, he opens up the tree and lets her through. The creepy helpful cat.

The next time he appears is in a croquet match between Alice and the Queen of Hearts. He plays a trick on the Queen making her fall over and makes it look like Alice has done it. The Queen gets angry and orders her head to be cut off, the King intervenes and demands a trial which the Queen agrees to. Shame on you Cheshire Cat.

In the courtroom the Cheshire Cat appears on the Queens head whilst talking to Alice. Alice then becomes excited by his appearance and jumps and points at him. The Dormouse becomes startled then the Mad Hatter, The March Hare and the King become eccentric running around the courtroom. The Queen is hit by the gavel and becomes livid. She insults the Queen, which the Cat repeats back, then Alice runs away and finally wakes up. Although the Cheshire Cat appears creepy, strange and bizarre, he in fact turned out to be helpful by being the cause of Alice waking up. He certainly is one unforgettable character, especially with that smile.

3. The Queen of Hearts

The Queen of Hearts, the villain of the movie. Like the Cheshire Cat the Queen has quite a memorable entrance. An eccentric music piece of playing cards dancing to finally reveal the Queen, she sees immediately one rose is not red, and gets very very angry. When she demands to know who did this, the cards point at each other, she finishes by demanding all of their heads to be cut off which pleases her greatly.

In the croquet match the Queen plays with Alice, one card doesn’t get there in time for the hedgehog to roll through, she becomes mad and orders for the cards head to be cut off. She did this just so she could win. She couldn’t face losing. Next thing the Cheshire Cat appears making her fall over, the Queen thinks this is Alice’s doing and demands for Alice’s head to be cut off. One might say the Queen has an obsession for having people’s heads cut off.

In the courtroom madness erupts. Alice eats some mushroom which makes her grow and she berates the Queen. At first the Queen is scared as Alice is much bigger, but Alice quickly grows small and the Queen demands, again, for Alice’s head to be cut off. The Queen makes her minions chase after Alice, but Alice is much faster and makes it to the door where she wakes up. The Queen of Hearts definitely plays a great villain in this movie.
