Resident Evil is a Worthy Videogame Adaptation that is Wildly Entertaining from Start to Finish

Resident Evil was always praised heavily by videogame fans, but the movies left a bad taste for those who adored the games. It took 7 movies for the fans to finally get a damn good Resident Evil, and it took the 8th attempt! This film truly felt like a combination of the games, and it perfectly captured the essence of what makes the videogames great!

Instead of focusing on the main characters that fans love from the games, this new Resident Evil movie thankfully decided to focus on a random survivor that finds himself caught in the throes of Raccoon City, where the outbreak first occurs. The random dude's name is Bryan, and he is a medical courier who is asked to deliver a possible organ to someone who is in desperate need of it in Raccoon City. Bryan agrees, once he hears about the promised double payment. While he is heading over to the city, he is driving during the night, in snow, using a vehicle that isn't exactly meant for this type of weather.

He is speaking with his girlfriend on the phone, named Michelle, because they are having a very important conversation about having a baby. Michelle is now pregnant, and Bryan is having doubts about becoming a father. During the conversation, he accidentally hits a woman that crosses the road.

He goes to look for her, and walks her back to the car, to take her to the same hospital he is heading toward to deliver the package. A cop stops him, and Bryan admits that he had hit this poor woman with his car, and the cop takes the woman in his own vehicle, to help Bryan with going to the hospital.

Unfortunately, things go horribly wrong when the woman suddenly attacks the cop, flipping his car over. Bryan is attacked by the woman when he attempts to help the cop, and he is able to take down the woman with the cop's gun. During the attack, he accidentally shoots the engine to his car, and he is forced to find refuge on foot.

Bryan stumbles upon a house in the middle of nowhere, but he does not find the refuge he is desperately seeking.

Bryan hops an electric fence to get to the house he finds, and is attacked by a zombie dog. He is successfully able to put down the dog with his gun, and he makes his way into the house, but no one is home. He learns that the people inside were also attacked, but are nowhere to be found. Bryan then finds a rifle, and while searching for weapons, he eats food to replenish his hunger, and then attempts to call his girlfriend, asking her to call him back. Bryan sees the same woman that attacked him earlier making her way back home, and he uses the rifle ammo he finds to get ready for a fight.

He is suddenly attacked by an old man, and Bryan is able to take the man, and even the woman out with his weapons.

But Bryan learns the hard way that these are not your regular zombies. They start to mutate, by fusing their bodies together. Bryan runs out of the home, fails to escape on a vehicle, and then runs on foot, while the creature inside the home is now fully transforming.

Bryan comes across a tunnel, and goes inside, preparing for another fight. He enters an RV to make it to the other side of the tunnel and finds a little girl. She is infected, and while Bryan attempts to help her, she transforms, biting Bryan on the arm. He kills the girl, and leaves the RV in shock, in denial that he just killed a child.

The same mutation from the house appears again, coming after Bryan. He runs again, dropping ammo from his rifle in a panic. A vehicle with two people inside come to his rescue, and a woman named Maxine scares away the mutation. They take Bryan with them, and he learns what is really going on in Raccoon City. A man named Paul explains to Bryan that he was working for Umbrella, a corporation that was responsible for the zombie outbreak. He tells Bryan that the package he is carrying is actually the cure to the outbreak, and Bryan decides to stick around, hoping that he will be cured before he transforms himself.

The trio arrive to Raccoon City, and are attacked by the dead.

The trio receive an unwelcome party when they show up to the city. Maxine tries to save two people from zombies, but after failing to return back to the car, Bryan takes a machine gun with him, determined to get back the car keys, and hopefully Maxine. He finds the lower half of Maxine's body, but every time he tries to get back the car keys, the body is dragged away. Bryan gives up, and goes back to the car, only to witness Paul get dragged away himself. Bryan fails to save his life, accidentally shooting him.

He runs away from this creature, that turns out to the same mutation that he ran into in the beginning of the film. Bryan runs through the city, and escapes through the sewers. He battles zombie rats that hatch from a very fat zombie, and he escapes back to the city. He runs for his life again when zombies fall from buildings, exploding to bits when they hit the ground. He eventually reaches the hospital, but he can clearly see that it is filled with the undead.

Bryan finds another passageway and enters a garage in the hospital. Bryan stops when he notices the mutation on his arm is getting worse. He panics, and rips off his clothes, freaking out with how bad the infection has gotten. He decides to leave a message for his girlfriend, telling her that they should have a baby, and he tells Michelle she would be a wonderful mom. He stops the message, finishing his goodbye. He cries, and then he hears a voice from an intercom.

The man is a scientist for Umbrella, and he tells Bryan to bring the package to the 28th floor in the building. Bryan reluctantly agrees, and goes through a crapload of battles while heading to the top floor. He escapes from a crowd of zombies, fights the same mutation twice, and barely survives from a zombie that throws up acid.

Bryan eventually reaches the top floor, and gives the package to the small group of scientists.

But things go wrong very quickly.

Bryan struggles to fight against the zombie infection.

While the scientists are trying to make the cure, Bryan reveals that he is infected, but now it's getting so much worse. The scientists panic, and they start to get killed by Bryan, who no longer has control of his body. The scientists fail to inject him with the cure, and one last scientist is left. Instead of saving Bryan, he runs away, and Bryan breaks through the elevator, grabbing the last remaining scientist. Bryan is begging to be saved, but before he can be cured, he gives in to the infection.

Bryan rips apart the scientist, the cure lost forever.

A helicopter arrives, and Bryan, now a fully mutated zombie, roars at the helicopter, ending the film.

This was such a bleak ending, and I loved it.

I don't understand why people didn't like the ending. It fits the Resident Evil universe, and it was nice to see someone that had no plot armor for once. It was kind of awesome to watch the journey of a random dude, that became the monster that had been chasing him throughout the entire film. Poor Bryan did not deserve that, but I had a gut feeling that he was going to die anyway, once he was bitten.

Bryan was way too pure for this world, and the fact that he wanted to save a child led to his downfall, and now his girlfriend will never learn the truth of what happened to him.

This Resident Evil movie finally gave fans the videogame adaptation that we deserved, and it was indeed a bloody good time!
