Resident Evil: Biohazard is a Great Homage to RE7
This fantastic short film gives me hope that we will continue to get Resident Evil movies.

Resident Evil: Biohazard is based on the popular videogame that brought back the Resident Evil franchise: RE7. This game was very original, following the story of a random family that gets targeted by the zombie virus. Each of them become insane and turn into monsters, terrorizing Ethan Winters, who has been kidnapped by the same people that was responsible for his wife’s disappearance.
Chandler Riggs from The Walking Dead both directed and wrote the short film that was inspired by RE7, and he even starred in the film, playing Ethan Winters. Even though the film was only twenty minutes, it truly felt like I was playing the game again, and this was such a damn great adaptation. We instantly start off with Ethan Winters in the iconic dinner sequence, when he finds himself being forced to eat a disgusting meal with the infected family.
When he refuses, Ethan is tortured for a brief moment, catching a glimpse of the humanity that is still locked away within the family. They leave him tied to the chair, and he escapes, trying to find a way to get out of the house. He is confronted by Jack, the powerhouse husband that is pretty tough to take down. Ethan gets his foot cut off by Jack during a scary confrontation, and he is given a strange potion that is able to easily re — attach his foot back to his leg. Jack then proceeds to attack him again, and Ethan is able to escape through a trapdoor.
He finds himself in the dark, and is jump scared by the wife of Jack, but she runs off, only wanting to scare him. Ethan runs into a deputy, who claims that people have been going missing in the area. They both meet up in the garage, and Ethan prepares to tell him everything, but once the deputy sees a body part, he gets aggressive with Ethan. He desperately begins to plead with him, trying to convince the deputy that he had nothing to do with this, until he sees Jack sneak into the garage. He kills the deputy, and Ethan quickly takes the gun to use as a weapon.
Jack and Ethan get into a huge fight, but Ethan loses the round. He attempted to use a vehicle to crush Jack, but he jumped into the car with him, and then purposely drove into a pile of pipes. Jack ends up impaling himself, and Ethan is luckily spared. He leaves the vehicle, about to enter a different part of the house, until a burned Jack attempts to attack him again. Ethan fights back, emptying the gun on Jack.
He leaves the garage, now entering the laundry room. He hears a phone go off, and goes over to answer it. He hears a young woman’s voice on the other end, who claims to be Zoe, the daughter of Jack and his wife. She tells Ethan that she knows what happened to Mia, and if he wants to escape with his life and Mia’s, then he must trust Zoe.
The film ends with Ethan accepting her deal.
I was so disappointed that this movie wasn’t longer. I completely forgot it was only 20 minutes, and I was craving so much more. Chandler Riggs should seriously be given the freedom to create a feature length film of Resident Evil: Biohazard. He completely understands the game, and I think he could easily bring this videogame to life. People who don’t play the games would also love this story, because I think it’s the perfect Resident Evil story to introduce to non — videogamers.
Resident Evil: Biohazard takes direct inspiration from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, so that is already a pretty great selling point for this movie to work for other audiences!
Resident Evil this year has been on a high tide, from a great movie coming out in theaters, to an awesome fan made film on YouTube. I was not expecting to see two actors from The Walking Dead be able to pull off a Resident Evil film, but it honestly makes sense, since these two actors knew how to deal with zombies!
I really hope that Chandler Riggs is given the chance to create a full movie! This was one of my favorite horror films of 2026, and I can’t wait to see what his next project will be!
