Jason X (2002)

Welcome, one and all to the first installment to Reel Thoughts. I just wanted to start off by giving you a summary about what I am about and what this feed will be based on. I am just a movie watcher and someone who has a lot of thoughts on certain movies. Reel Thoughts will just be a feed about opinions on movies and all opinions, observations, and also questions are welcomed! Now, let's dive right in.

***

Most people know about the Friday the 13th series. If they have not seen the movies, they at least have seen the infamous slasher, Jason Voorhees. If you are looking for a series that has ridiculous kills, cast, and plot: these movies are for you. The series was released in 1980 with the first movie Friday the 13th: Part 1. I say part 1 because there are, in fact, 11 movies with one being a remake. Now, I know some of you are saying, "Wasn't there a Freddy vs Jason movie?"

There was!

For the sake of characters, I believe that movie is more cannon to the Nightmare on Elm Street series. That is for another review for another day.

ENOUGH CHIT CHAT! Let us get into the nitty gritty of the movie, Jason X.

*NOTE: If you have not seen the movie, I recommend watching it before reading further. Unless you are someone who doesn't follow the rules. If that is the case, I like you.*

Alright. Jason X. Thoughts? I can tell you mine.

This movie on my own rating is a 6 out of 10. I will tell you why.

The screenwriter, Todd Farmer, had never seen the Friday the 13th movies before writing this movie, although he has been a screen writer for other well known movies. He should have made this movie a little better with a little bit of research before making a film for this infamous franchise.

Jason was the protagonist in this film. I mean, the opening credits are literally the inside of his body. This movie was not really a scary movie, but a gross-out. I mean, someone got their face destroyed. One thing in the movie that gets me rolling is the fact that just hearing young adults have sex is TRIGGERING for Jason. He wakes up from being frozen and being revived by bugs (nanobots), then starts his killing spree. He is killing people by slicing, stabbing, smashing, and VR style. But the thing that strikes me in this is the fact that the crew itself kills THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE!

The ship runs into a planet, Solaris, and just destroys the whole entire planet. It's quite sad, but there's no emotion from the crew.

Jason is "killed" by the robot that got an "upload" by her creator who thinks 70s bowl haircuts are sexy. Then the nanobots find Jason and give him a brand new look. But during the time of him upgrading, the best scene in the movie by far is the scene where Jason wakes up at Camp Crystal Lake. He walks up to these two naked college girls who scream, "We love premarital sex!"

If you are not sold by this movie at that part, I do not blame you.

Generally, the movie ends with Jason getting killed by the ship's badass, who sacrifices himself by pushing himself and Jason out into space and turning into a ball of fire. Oh! Let's not forget the fact that two students on Earth 2 look at the ball of fire in the night sky and say, "Make a wish."

I could talk about this movie all day, but as all reviews and opinions, it's time for a close. This movie rated by itself on the scale of 1-10— being "Never watch this" to "I will watch this brilliant masterpiece over and over again"—it's a 6 out of 10. Pretty good movie if you like gross, awful puns, and people whose acting is just funny to watch.

Until next time, this was Reel Thoughts. Look out for the next review of the movie Cult of Chucky.
