Grandpa Earl’s submarine was now being pulled into the dark depths of the ocean, by the mysterious sea creature of the frozen lake. A creature he had encountered a few years before, when it took his beloved dog Olly and killer whale Willy. Since this incident, grandpa had been returning to the frozen lake, fishing, searching and waiting for Olly and Willy to return. This winter, he took his granddaughters, Annie and Lucy and family animal, Beethoven a Saint Bernard, Lucifer a Persian cat and Fufu, an Arabian horse joined him. Now facing the ocean with a guiding light from the head of the submarine, it was pitched black and an area where whales, dolphins and sharks do not go. ‘Can you see anything?’ asked Lucy to her grandfather, ‘not too sure’ grandpa replied, who was carefully steering and being alert. ‘You never know what is in these waters’ he replied concerningly. Suddenly, a big crack happened on the glass, luckily the glass was unbreakable, it just bounced back into shape. ‘Woof woof, what was that?’ asked Beethoven, leaning on the glass, just as Grandpa was about to answer, a giant anglerfish crashed into the glass of the submarine again, it had big sharp teeth, a see-through body with a big lightbulb dangling from its forehead, which was now shining on the submarine. ‘Ahhhh!’ screamed the girls, ‘hide, hide, hide’ shouted Annie, who ran to hide under the pillows with Beethoven. ‘It’s okay girls, it won’t hurt us’, replied grandpa, who was fascinated at how big the anglerfish was. ‘I want to eat it! It’s a fish! cried Lucifer, as he said this, the anglerfish continued to bit the submarine, ‘Meowwww yelp!’ who quickly dashed under the sofa, after seeing enormous teeth. ‘I believe it’s hungry grandpa replied, releasing something into the water, to make the anglerfish stop biting the submarine. ‘Is that a puurr tree purr purr’? asked Lucifer, who had crawled back out with his paws up against the glass, ‘it sure is a pear tree Lucifer, replied Grandpa Earl giving Lucifer a pat on the head. ‘I have been planting these trees in my garden, continued grandpa, ‘and looks like I had left some in the boat, since they’ve grown quickly. ‘I was reading about the amazing effects they have on the soil, but pears are made from water, irrigation and rainfall’. ‘Fascineeighting’ neighed Fufu, ‘I love pears’, she added, who confidently was dragging a bag of pears from the storeroom and began eating them all’. ‘I actually have a bag of the pears on the boat’ Grandpa continued, and then realised Fufu was eating them. Releasing more pear trees to try and satisfy the anglerfish’s appetite, who eventually let out a loud burp and swam away. Grandpa Earl kept steering the boat and watching attentively out of the submarine, curious to find out where the pink sea creature disappeared too.

‘Hmm’ said Grandpa Earl, ‘we’ll let’s get some sleep, since we aren’t going anywhere for a while, the navigator isn’t reading for some reason. I will try to get us back up to surface’. ‘Okay Grandpa’ Annie and Lucy replied, ‘let’s go Fufu, Lucifer and Beethoven’ said Lucy waving her hand for them to follow. ‘What’s this?’ said Lucifer, who happened to be playing with the machinery, and that’s why the navigator wasn’t functioning. ‘Lucifer’ shouted grandpa, ‘stop playing with that’ Lucifer who always did what he wanted, just ignored. Beethoven came over and pull Lucifer away from the machinery, ‘seriously stop it, woof, we might die underwater’, said Beethoven pulling Lucifer away, who was very unimpressed. Lucifer now had a tantrum and smacked Beethoven on the head. ‘Stop it’ Beethoven said to Lucifer now letting him go. The submarine was now on cruise control and Grandpa Earl kept steering, ‘keep watch boy’ he said to Beethoven. Beethoven was the kind of dog who had sensitive hearing, and could sleep with his eyes closed, and still knew what was going on. Now everyone was fast asleep and, Beethoven got woken up by some rustling sound, opening his eyes, he noticed pear trees appearing on a ceiling, and the submarine was heading into a golden lair, with sparkling gold glitter across it. ‘Woof, woof’ and now nudging Grandpa Earl to wake up, who was asleep in his chair. Lucifer who was half asleep, was walking towards Beethoven rubbing his eyes with his paw, pressed his face against the glass looking at gold. ‘Meeeeooow, pretty’ he said, while cleaning himself, and watching the gold come closer.

The submarine continued drifting into the golden lair, with some shining lights approaching ahead, Grandpa now awake, saw two shadows in the distance, appearing to be playing cards at a table whilst sitting down. They looked like they were having fun, but were trapped behind some bars, as the submarine got closer, Grandpa Earl was shocked and surprised, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. ‘Oll-Olly! Woof! Olly!’ Shouted Beethoven who was wagging his tail, crying happily and putting his paws on the glass with excitement. ‘Willy!’ Fufu cried happily. Grandpa Earl had taken his hands off the wheel in shock of what he was seeing, Beethoven quickly took over the wheel. ‘My friends, grandpa sighed, ‘I can’t believe it’s you, I knew you were still alive, but who owns this lair?’ Grandpa Earl asked. Suddenly, from the other hole of the lair, came out a large black shadow, appearing with nine pink tentacles, with sharp claws at the end of each tentacle. This creature had a very big pink head, with two eyes, a mouth with sharp teeth and was now grinning happily, as dinner had arrived into its home. It bellowed in a loud voice, ‘who dares to enter my lair?!’ Everyone froze, and was now exchanging looks with this pink giant creature, ‘we did not wonder into your lair, we followed the light’ explained Annie, with her brunette pigtails and pink onesie. ‘Hmm, that’s still entering my lair!’ the creature said angrily, ‘Do you have a name?’ asked Lucy who was eating a pear that Fufu gave her, in her purple onesie, flicking her blonde ponytail. ‘I’m Lucy and this is my sister Annie, this Lucifer, Fufu, Beethoven and our grandpa’. Waiting for an answer from the creature, who was now wailing and sobbing, ‘wahhahh’, the creature continued, ‘My name is Fluffy’, ‘Fluffy?’ asked Lucifer who was making fun of his name, which then led Fluffy’s face to change drastically. ‘It’s a beautiful name’ Lucifer added quickly, so Fluffy wouldn’t get angry. ‘Wahhhah’, continued Fluffy, ‘My Grandpa named me Fluffy’, he said. ‘I miss my grandpa, he died when I was a young sea nymph’ he explained. ‘Would you like a pear tree to eat?’ ‘You look hungry’, asked Grandpa Earl, who released pear trees towards Fluffy, to see if it would change his mood. This made Fluffy happy, as he grabbed the trees and began eating them happily, ‘Wait!’ He said, ‘I need music, where is my music box’, rummaging through his box of stuff. Fluffy took out a vintage radio, and turned the dial, ‘Really, there's signal for radios down here?’ asked Lucy who was amazed. Fluffy found a good station to listen too, and was now singing and eating his pears, to a whole new world, the Aladdin theme song, ‘I want you two in the cell to sing along and play the part, or I will eat you!’ pointing at Willy and Olly. Willy and Olly began to sing, ‘Willy, you take the higher part, and I’ll take the lower part’ said Olly. They were about to sing, when something came floating into the lair, they could only see its shadow from the light outside, merging into the lair, what was this thing floating? Was it going to eat them all? Was it bigger than Fluffy? Was it dangerous? That’s another story for another time.
