Oddity is an Eerie Experience Littered with Mystery and Terror

Oddity was created by the same director who wrote Hokum, and while the premise is very similar to this film, the twists and turns were very different, using a completely different creepy folklore for both films. Hokum gave audiences a creepy witch along with a murder mystery, and Oddity gives the audience possessed objects mixed with a murder mystery.

The movie begins with a woman named Dani, who has recently moved into a large old school creepy home, and it appears to be her dream house. She is setting up the place, while living inside of a tent for now. She calls her husband, telling him I love you, and then asks for the three of them, the other person being her sister, to come eat with them for dinner. She leaves a voicemail for Darcy, her twin sister, to let her know how things are going in her new place.

Later that night, she gets a mysterious visitor, who claims that someone is in her home. She becomes creeped out, and believes that the man at the door is lying, and wants her to let him in. He begs her to open the door, so that he can protect her. Dani hesitates with opening the door, and the film cuts to a different scene.

A man is drawing in his room, who is one of the patients staying in a mental asylum, that is owned by Dani's husband, Ted. He hears creepy sounds outside of his room, and he becomes terrified, hiding under his bed. He emerges from his room when he feels safe to do so, and discovers a dead body in another room, that was once a man named Olin, who had tried to warn Dani about a stranger being in her home.

Ted visits Darcy in her antique store, who is revealed to be blind, and has psychic abilities.

Ted stops by Darcy's strange antique store filled with haunted objects, holding a glass eye, that once belonged to Olin. Everyone believed that he had killed Dani, and Darcy wanted to keep the eye, for a reason that not even Ted understood. Dani takes the eye, and touches it later, revealing her psychic abilities. There are flashes of that night that go through her mind of what happened to Dani, and then she goes over to a box in her store, touching it.

She makes a surprise appearance at Ted's place, the same house that he had purchased with his late wife. He is now dating a new woman named Yana, and she looks uncomfortable with the thought of Darcy wanting to stay over, and it doesn't help that she brought along a creepy item as a gift for the new couple. It is a wooden man, the size of a human being. Ted leaves to go to work, and promises to meet up with Yana later in the city.

Yana finds Darcy on the couch, and now the wooden man is sitting at the dinner table, but Darcy claims it moved on its own. Yana ignores this odd statement, and prepares to leave, but fails to find her car keys. She decides to spend time with Darcy, and learns a terrible truth.

Olin was not the one who killed Dani. Someone else did, and they are still on the loose.

Yana later calls Ted, telling him that Darcy just informed her that Ivan, one of Ted's co - workers, was responsible for the death of his wife. Ted is in disbelief over this realization, and it cuts back to Yana, who gets the scare of her life when the wooden man looks up at her while she is standing on the balcony. She drops her phone, and it breaks. She takes another peek, but the wooden man is still the same, sitting at the dinner table.

She then discovers there are five holes in the back of the wooden man's head. Yana pulls out several strange items, such as photos of the two sisters, a vial of blood, and a tooth. Darcy yells at Yana to put everything back into the head, and Yana complies, now feeling creeped out. She goes to her bedroom to lie down, and while she is watching videos of Ted and his wife on a camera, she freaks out when she suddenly sees Dani in the video, now dead, only to actually see her in her own bedroom.

Dani yells at Yana to run, and she does, in a complete panic. She makes her way downstairs, discovers the car keys hidden in the box where the wooden man once was, and she escapes from the house.

Ted decides to go to the house on his own, and we learn another shocking truth about Dani's death.

Ted arrives back home, only to discover that the power has gone now, Yana is missing, and he finds Darcy huddled upstairs. He speaks with her, believing that she has gone crazy when she claims that Ivan killed her sister. But then she blames Ted, telling him that he was the one who ordered her death. He had Ivan kill his wife, to avoid a divorce, because he claimed that she loved him too much. He apparently had been cheating on her with Yana and believed killing her was the best option.

Ted decides to lay a trap for Darcy, before convincing her to answer the phone he will leave behind, to tell the police everything. He opens up a secret trap door that will lead to a horrible fall, and that is exactly what happens when Ted purposely calls Darcy from his office in the asylum. He sends Ivan to go check if the job is done, and he appears relieved when Ivan finds Darcy still clinging to life on the floor, blood leaking from her head.

Darcy sees Ivan, and tells him that she is connected with the wooden man. She controls the wooden man, going after Ivan, the same technique she had used on Olin, but was heartbroken when she realized she had murdered an innocent man. This time however, she does have the right person, and the wooden man hunts down Ivan, finally reaching him, but she dies before that can happen. Darcy reunites with her sister as the scene cuts to Ivan now in the asylum.

Ted confronts Ivan, who is now tied to a bed. Ivan wants to confess about everything, but Ted refuses to let him go, knowing that he will be screwed if people find out the truth. He frees a random patient, who is known to be quite dangerous. Ivan begs Ted to not do this, as the patient enters the room, proceeding to eat at his foot as Ivan screams.

Ted goes back home, attempting to call his girlfriend, but she refuses to get back with him. She finds everything suspicious, and now that two people died in his home, she just wants Ted to stay away from her. Ted returns home, appearing a bit broken, and he finds a package waiting for him. He opens the package, and finds an object inside. It's a bell, an object that Darcy once owned in her antique store, and she claimed that this bell was cursed. If anyone were to press the bell, a dead bell boy would appear, to kill that person.

Ted never believed in this kind of stuff, so he rings the bell while sitting at the dinner table. He looks around the house but realizes that it's all in his head. He laughs this off, as we see the dead bell boy next to him, confirming that Ted is indeed completely screwed.

I was so relieved that Darcy got her revenge in the end. Even though it sucks that she got an innocent man killed, I do believe that she knew about the trap Ted left for her, and she chose to die that way, as a sort of punishment for what she did. It makes me wonder if she got to stay with her sister in the end, but at least Dani would now be at peace, her two killers erased from Earth.

Oddity is a great horror experience, and I'm so mad it took me so long to watch this movie!
