“The Haunting of Hill House” was released by Netflix during 2018 and told the story of five siblings growing up together in an eerie house. The house connects the siblings, drawing them back as adults with scary results. Netflix has now renewed the epic show with a follow-up original series called “The Haunting of Bly Manor.”

Having binge-watched season 1, horror and fantasy fans have been longing for a second season of the horror series and fortunately, this is now getting closer. The series was officially been renewed for a second season in March last year and after several months, the cast and crew of “The Haunting of Bly Manor” have concluded filming.

Obviously there is still plenty of post-production work to be done on the series and so far no premiere date has been released. However, Mike Flanagan headed to Twitter on February 21 to release the good news.

Flanagan wrote, “That’s a wrap on The Haunting of Bly Manor. Congratulations to the cast and crew, the familiar faces and the new, and congratulations to the filmmakers who came on board to make this season their own.”

What is “The Haunting of Bly Manor” about?

Union Journalism reports that season 2 will not relate to the Crain family from season 1. However, while the new season is based on a different horror tale, reportedly some of the original cast will be seen in the new show.

Fans will likely remember that “The Haunting of Hill House” was based on the 1959 book of the same name by Shirley Jackson. “The Haunting of Bly Manor” is based on an even older story, dating back to 1898, titled “The Turn of the Screw” and written by author Henry James.

The new season will tell the story of a governess who is hired to care for a man’s niece and nephew, Miles and Flora, following the death of their parents. According to Good Reads, this is the young governess’ first job and she finds the two children to be “weirdly beautiful” and “strangely distant.”

The estate they live on is haunted by evil, with half-seen figures glaring from the dusty windows and with "foul phantoms" that come in the day and night. The governess finally realizes these phantoms want the two children, wishing to possess their minds and corrupt their bodies. Even worse, the governess realizes the children have no fear about this lurking evil.

Among the returning cast in “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” we will get to see Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel and Henry Thomas again. Another actress in the series is Victoria Pedretti, who recently starred in the Netflix series “You.” However, nothing has yet been released about their roles in the new original series.

While no official premiere date has been released, according to What's on Netflix, “The Haunting of Bly Manor” will start streaming during the fall of 2020. This gives plenty of time to re-binge season 1, “The Haunting of Hill House,” to get back in the mood and ready to be terrified!

If you haven’t already seen "The Haunting of Hill House", you can catch it on Netflix and a trailer is included below.
