My Real Life Ghost Experience of 2020
Real story and video footage from a haunted bed and breakfast in 2020
OK it started in July 2020 in the year of the pandemic. I decided that I was going to go around and visit haunted abandoned places and supposedly haunted hotels. I wanted to find things that are fairly easy to do alone or with one other person in a fairly socially distance manner.
The first hotel I wanted to stay on was one that was low but it’s in Columbus Ohio and it’s actually a bed-and-breakfast called Harrison House bed and breakfast. It’s not technically a hotel but I think a bed-and-breakfast counts and perhaps is even better for the scenario. There are a lot of creepy places in this neck of the United States, I would say in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, West Virginia and Illinois there’s just a huge bundle of supposedly haunted places. Pennsylvania stands out majorly I think and Ohio is perhaps right behind it more so because of the Civil War perhaps. I found a place online called the Harrison house bed-and-breakfast. This place was supposedly haunted, people who stay there claim to hear voices talking to them or whispering into their ear, they claim to see coat hangers in room number six move on their own in the night. One of the most commonly heard claims is hearing footsteps walking through the hallway upstairs in the attic near room number six.
Now before I get into my story let me preface by Explaining a bit the bed-and-breakfast itself. the bed and breakfast is in the Victorian neighborhood of Columbus Ohio all the houses are very very old in this area very big old Victorian houses. All very pretty, this one is gigantic it’s about 12 bedrooms and is split between three stories the very top floor is an attic and has one room. This room is number six along with that there’s a long hallway of which where the other end holds only a door where inside is a dark dingy crawlspace. Also notable, in this hallway is what used to be a second crawlspace which would give access to the further back side of the house and this is boarded off at some point and clearly is closed off and I’m not sure why I’m not sure it has anything creepy to do with it and am unsure the story behind it. It probably isn’t something paranormal it. The house is decorated tastefully in a mix between the old Victorian style of stuff and some new type of furniture or trinkets. The woman who owns it is very nice she’s older she’s in her late 50s or early 60s and she’s happy to tell stories about her experiences the problem with things like this. It was sometimes hard to tell if it’s something that she actually believes or it’s more a thing where the owner kindles the stories more in a manner to capitalize on it. when I spoke to the woman in the story she told me match what I saw online and that’s basically that you know there’s footsteps often and doors opening and closing reports of whispers in peoples ears. She told a few personal stories of family members she said stayed in room 6 which seemed to be where the activity is centered.
The first night I stayed, there was one other couple staying in the B&B who were friends of the owner. We spoke briefly and the woman happened to have stayed in room number six before in a previous stay and she said that she had no experiences. so I don’t know what to take from that but it was kind of reassuring in the fact that I didn’t feel like there was an angle where the host and her friends try to push an agenda of a haunting.
Let’s let’s get to the juicy stuff! Night number one, I go settle in to my room and I’m just relaxing it’s summertime I have the window cracked open I’m watching television in the room and I’m kind of messing around on my phone when all of a sudden the door, which is a jar by about seven or 8 inches, shut on its own. Not softly but forcefully. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t unnerved. I remained skeptical at the time and I tried to imagine perhaps it was wind because the window was open. At the same time it was quite odd how forceful the door closed and the wind hadn’t changed or picked up any. It wasn’t even a particularly breezy night. After that happened I decided to set up my phone and see if I’d get lucky and it would happen again and that’s the first clip in the video above. I won’t lie, it freaked me out tremendously because immediately I started wondering if this could actually be a real thing. Up until then I would consider myself more skeptical than not. Before coming into this I have never had a GREAT experience with the paranormal. I have explored abandoned hospitals and graveyards with friends. One in in Athens and one in Lima, Ohio of which the latter we captured an absolutely bizarre and creepy EVP. I don’t know about you but for me it was easier to kind of write a recorded sound off. I am still a skeptic to this day, though I don’t think that people should be open minded as we really know so little about how the universe truly works, but on the other end we don’t have the proof we really need to connect most of the paranormal with science.
Anyways, back to the story. After the door slammed I decided that I would set up my phone and maybe record for a while and just see if they will happen again I really didn’t think it would because I imagine paranormal occurrences are rare. So what I did was I just set my camera up against the window sill, I got about a minute and 16 seconds of the video and then it happened again and you’ll see in this video, shortened for time reasoning, and you can decide for yourself. In all I had 4 experiences in my stay of 4 nights. Not one very night but it averaged to be roughly that with 2 coming the final night. Often the door went quickly back and forth and I wish I captured one of the other moments with it which prompted the recording of the final video and why my voice seems so tense.
As bizarre and creepy as the door happenings were, the scariest occurrence was the final night. Once again this night there were no other guests, just me and the owner. Once again, the owners quarters were 2 stories down and on the complete other side of the house. That night I was awoke twice by heavy footsteps in the attic hallway outside my door. My door was locked, yeah that’s how sketched I was, so the first time I heard it and awoke I was so drowsy I shook it off and imagined it was probably n thing and went back to sleep. I’m not sure what time the first occurrence happens that night as I was truly half asleep still. The second time, I realized that I was definitively hearing someone or something walking outside of my door. This is a horrifying feeling. As much as it should be exhilarating, it’s far overshadowed by fight or flight. I sat up and immediately paused with my head leaning toward the door to listen but heard nothing more. I took note of the time it was a bit after 5am. After a minute of listening and trying to discern if perhaps it was something explainable, I stood up and said, “hello?” After no answer, I unlocked and opened the door and turned on my iPhone flash light. There was no one outside. I imagined this must be an actual real life ghost. The next day I had an equally scary thought. If it wasn’t a ghost, the only other thing it could have been, both equally terrifying, would be a squatter living somewhere in one of the crawl spaces out moving around for the night OR the option I find maybe the most eerie, the old lady who owned the house, creeping around the dark hallways and attic at night. Let me know your thoughts and thanks for listening to my story.
