Stone Mountain Park

Like my other research post I will start with some information about the location and the history. After that I will tell what is said to happen there and why it could be haunted. So let's get started.

This park has been in the news lately due to protest and outrage about the carving on the side of the mountain. The carving was completed in stages from 1923 to 1972. It depicts 3 leaders from the confederate side of the civil war; Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson. The leaders it depicts has lead to some controversy. The controversy really started in 2015. There is also come other confederate monuments that are there that contribute to the controversy.

On May 7, 1928 a mail plane crashed into the side of the mountain and the mailman didn't just survive the crash but carried the mail down the mountain. Before it was a park in 1847 it was mined for its granite for global use. The park is owned by the state of Georgia. During the 1996 Olympics it was home to the tennis, archery and track cycling events. The venues for the archery and cycling were supposed to be temporary but are a part of the the songbird and habitat trail. Also some of the outdoor scenes for the Netflix's show "Stranger things" were filmed at the park. Also in 2003 a plane crashed and burst into flames, the pilot was killed in the crash.

The park still operates to educate and entertain people. Confederate Hall is a museum that educates visitors on the geology and ecology of the park. It also educates people on the history of the park. In the hall there is theater that shows a short film called "The Battle for Georgia." The education department in the park hosts thousands of kids each year. The Antebellum Plantation and Farmyard is home to 19 historic buildings, built between 1790 and 1875. The farm has a petting zoo. There is also a grist mill and a covered bridge. There is carillon that originated at the 1964 New York World's Fair. There is so much more including Broadcast tower, Scenic railroad, Stone Mountain trails, places to stay in the park, and other park attractions. You can also go up the mountain either by the sky lift or walking. There is also a laser show between the spring and fall. During the winter there is snow mountain. They have year round events and festivals.

So why would this park be haunted? There's so many reasons. There's the fact that the park is on land that is believed to be where battles were fought during the civil war. Battles and wars are tragic ways to die, so the spirits of the soldiers maybe there still. Also there are historic buildings, a mill, covered bridge and other historic things there. Historic things can hold spirits or residual energy. There was that plane accident that I talked about in this post. Also there have been people who fell from the mountain. There's also slave quarters that were on the property. There could be possible drownings in the lake.

Is there any activity here? There are reports of paranormal activity near where the slave quarters, between people seeing ghosts and hearing things. I have also had an experience here. I was using my spirit box in the park I heard 3 voices. One said "leave" and I asked why but got no response. Another spirit said "hi" and when I asked a name I didn't get a response. Then another one said "leave" and after that I left.

I hope to go back soon. I also hope you enjoyed this. Stay tuned for an investigation.
