My Obsession with Obsession is Not Going Away

This is one of the few horror movies that hasn't left the back of my mind. I guess you could say that I've gotten obsessed with Obsession, and after watching the film in the theater for a second time, I think I know why.

Obsession is one of those very special horror films that I'm never going to forget. Every single year, there is always that one horror film that I consider to be the best of that year.

So far, here is my personal list of what I thought were the best films of the last recent years:

2024: The Substance.

2025: Together.

2026: Obsession.

What I love is that every film I have listed so far are all in their own category of horror. Both The Substance and Together are body horror related, but Obsession feels like a whole different ball game. I think it has to do with the fact that this film was created by a very low budget.

The film was created by a budget of only $750,000, and it was able to reach $333 million in the box office. And it took something old school for the film to work.

It took what we call, 'Word of Mouth.'

This film was able to appeal to so Generation Z, bringing to life a fast cult following, another rare feat that had been done before with another low-budget film, Terrifier. This was also by word of mouth when it came to the gory kills, but Obsession was again, another level.

Obsession appealed to audiences in so many ways, and for me, it took the first teaser trailer, showing Bear, the main protagonist, making a fun call about the One Wish Willow, the object he used for Nikki to fall in love with him. The phone call instantly caught my attention, and I knew that this was going to be a special horror film, but I never thought it was going to become extremely popular among the horror fanbases!

There are so many reasons why this film works for everyone:

- The acting is incredible. (Seriously, the film only consisted of four actors, and they all did such a fine job with their roles)!

- The soundtrack throughout the film is awesome. (The soundtrack really goes with every single scene in the film, drawing the audience into the story even more).

- Even though the 'wish going wrong' concept has been done before, the film does a fine job with making it original. (I think this is the best film that knew how to tackle this simple horror concept).

- We never get an explanation behind Nikki's possession. (The theories to what exactly took over Nikki's body is genius and terrifying at the same time).

- The film has a great buildup to the insanity of what takes place with Nikki's possession and the main character. (The film doesn't give a damn when it comes to all the bad stuff that happens).

- The film has one of the most cutthroat endings you will witness. (Seriously, everything that happens in the movie is all the main character's fault. He ruined the lives of all of his friends and tortured his love interest after making a wish for her to fall in love with him.

Obsession is one of the greatest achievements in the horror industry. I never thought we would ever witness two horror films doing awesome during the summer. Obsession is the kind of film I expected to leave the theater in one week, but this film has overstayed its welcome in the best way, taking the world by storm, making everyone become obsessed with the film. The Backrooms also is doing great in the box office, and even though it wasn't as low of a budget like Obsession, it still baffles me how well both films are doing in theaters!

Obsession is the new Obsession, and this film has paved the way for great indie horror films for theaters!
