Mermaid

A tale of possible sleep paralysis

Mermaid

I have been waiting almost a month for this shower curtain to arrive. My fiancé had suggested that I redecorate my bathroom to my liking. Now this may seem like a small thing but in this relationship that was a gift. My fiancé loved things to look a certain way, everything had to go together. On the other hand I was a bit more random and quirky with the things that I liked. As soon as he mentioned it to me I knew what I wanted to do my theme was going to be "The Ocean". I had a fascination with mermaids for as long as I could remember I never outgrew it. As a child I would pretend to be diving in the ocean with a beautiful blue tail and long lustrous hair flowing in the oceans currents. It felt so real to me back then. As I got older I would watch any movies, TV shows or documentaries that had anything to do with mermaids. I truly believed they existed and there was no way for it to be disproved.

Now back to the bathroom. I had decided to get mirror and glow-in-the-dark decals of the moon and stars and place them all over the bathroom walls. It looked like a night sky when the lights were off, it was beautiful and more realistic than I could of imagined.

The shower curtain had finally arrived. I tore open the packaging quickly and carefully. Immediately I begin to attach the hooks so that I could see if it was what I had paid for. I finished the last hook stood back and admired my mermaid she was beautiful. She had a complexion that was a mix of caramel and cocoa. Her hair was curly and black with an equal mixture of blue green and yellow highlights, it was as if the shades of the ocean were highlighted in her hair. Her tail was a beautiful vibrant collaboration of greens and blues with a magnificent beautiful silver fin she was sitting on the beach with her head tilted down as if in deep thought. With the stars on the walls it looked as if a mermaid had washed ashore in my bathroom. I was beyond happy with my selection and decoration efforts. I had added seashells, nautical hooks and anchors to the room to continue with the ocean theme. I smiled and turned off the light to get a better feel of the glow-in-the-dark decals that I had spent a week placing. It was realistic and eerie as if I had a piece of another world all to myself.

I then felt a chill. The bathroom had no windows. So how was a chill even possible? I then looked to my reflection in the mirror and became paralyzed as if in a trance. I could hear wind blowing and I felt a warm breeze along with a cool misting. As if waves were crashing on a beach. As I felt these things I also begin to smell them. The atmosphere in the room turned into a warm tropical type of heat. I feel as if this is my place in the world.

The air became tense. It was charged with physical static. I could hear a thunderstorm in the distance but electricity was in the air right in front of me. I could see the air sparking. As I took in this new intensity my eyes were drawn to the shoreline. I can make out a silhouette sitting at the shore. The waves were lapping up to her thighs. As the water drew back her legs glistened. They were beautiful. Sparkling blues and greens of all shades and her fin was like a ferocious shining silver guillotine. It was fanned out and flapping softly in the water yet cutting through the waves at the same time. Fin! What!! Wtf!!!!omg!! Am I really seeing this shit?! How is this possible??! I held my breath and took in what I was looking at very slowly. Yes there was a huge fin silver and glistening with intricate colors. What I thought were legs was actually a tail. Those beautiful blues and greens were actually scales that then went up into a slim waistline with a flat toned belly. Her skin was the color of chocolate and caramel. Her breasts were slightly exposed they were perfect. Any woman would have loved to have breast that naturally perky and supple. Long dark hair fell loosely around her breasts and down her back. The same emerald and sapphire colors of her scales were scattered through out her hair as well. She had thick perfectly shaped eyebrows. Soft yet high cheekbones. Beautiful full lips that were a little rosy in color. Her eyes were shaped like large almonds framed with full dark lashes and piercing amber colored eyes. Her eyes were actually glowing. I was mesmerized by the beauty of what I was seeing. But then there was a shift in the atmosphere. It now felt dangerous. I looked around and saw that the sky had completely darkened. There were clouds rolling in our direction almost tumbling over themselves was how it looked. You could feel the heat from the electricity in the air I looked back to the beautiful mermaid and she was staring at me.

Those piercing amber eyes had locked on me and they were now glowing red. No longer the soft beautiful amber that I was so mesmerized by. Right before my eyes this enchanting creature became horrifying. Her beautiful rosy lips parted to reveal a mouth of razor sharp teeth. The canines actually appeared to be fangs. For the first time I noticed her hands. Her fingers were like talons. They were glistening and glinting in the moonlight. This hauntingly beautiful creature then let out a shriek that pierced through the air with such anger and hurt and resentment and strength that it shook me out of my trance. Everything shook it was as if she had triggered an earthquake. Her shriek resounded like rolling thunder in a lightening storm. It lit up the skies. Immediately I knew I was in danger. I felt it. The mermaid began coming towards me. Her eyes were locked on mine she was coming. She was coming too fast. She was doing an army crawl but she had so much speed that she was to me in no time she had come so quickly I didn't have time to run it would have been no use anyway I could not move.

The mermaid was now at my feet. Slowly she rose up to stand with me. We were the same height now. Up close she was even more mesmerizing. Her skin sparkled and glowed as if her inner energy was shining through her. The mermaid was breathtaking and I was terrified. The air had gone completely still and thick. The lightning was crackling all around us. The only other sound was the oceans waves. As I stood locked in the glare of the mermaids stare her lips begin to curl and revealed the razor-sharp fangs very similar to what I imagine a vampire's fangs would look like. A serpent-like tongue flicked out ever so quickly as she leaned in closer she inhaled deeply. As if smelling the aroma of something she longed for. In that same instance she grabbed me by both arms in a painful vice-like grip. Her talon like nails were cutting into me I could feel the blood trickling from my wounds. I heard the droplets hit the sand. The sky began to turn an angry fierce orange and red with violet undertones. The mermaid put her face inches from mines. Closer and closer until our lips touched. Immediately I feel cold sheer terror panic and desperation deep within my being.

Behind the mermaid I could see myself standing in the dark bathroom looking in as if in a trance. I could also see there was a light leaving me. All colors. Bright reds, oranges, purples, blues and greens. A rainbow of colors were being sucked out of me into the mermaid. Her scales begin to light up and her skin became radiant. I felt weak and lost but out of nowhere a voice said "Do not let her have your essence you will never be what you are intended to be if you give away your essence.

I realized the voice was talking about the colors that I was watching the mermaid suck from me. I tried to pull away but she had me in a fierce grip. Out of sheer desperation I looked back at myself in my bathroom and I mentally told myself to wake up. Snap out of it. Over and over. Then finally my voice broke through. I screamed it. The sound of my voice was deafening. The mermaid was so shocked she jumped loosening her grip. At that exact instance I darted past her and jumped toward myself in the mirror. As I passed through I felt like I had been hit by a Mack truck.

My eyes flew open and I was looking at myself in the mirror in my dark bathroom. I was so shocked I began thinking bitch you've lost it. But then a face appeared in the mirror. Those amber eyes were glowing. She was mirroring my movements. I touched the mirror and it rippled. I felt the atmosphere on the other side charged with lightening and warm intensity. As I felt the ripple I also felt the touch of the mermaid. I drew back and the mirror became normal again. It was only me staring back. I turned the light on and splashed my face with water I was bugging. I had to of fallen asleep is what I thought. I hallucinated. Maybe I was finally having the breakdown I was so terrified of. I convinced myself I had burned the wrong resin and that it made me hallucinate along with the joint I had smoked before deciding to put the shower curtain up. Except that once I stepped in the shower both my arms lit up with pain. I looked down to see that I had five deep scratches on both arms that were fresh. The water and soap stung. As I got out of the shower I saw the blood that had pooled on the floor where I had been standing in front of the mirror. How is that possible did I do that to myself? I asked myself as I was cleaning how could I have done this? I then noticed the shower curtain was different from when I first hung it up. One of the mermaids hands were at her lips and the tips of her fingers were red. The other hand was still in the sand but in a pool of red. She also had new colors in her hair. Purples, reds, oranges and most importantly she wasn't looking down as if she was in thought anymore. She was looking at me and her eyes were glowing. A deep burning amber.
