Lights Out: The Darkness That Followed Them
Some fears disappear in light… but return the moment darkness arrives

Darkness always frightened Rebecca.
Not ordinary darkness.
Not the kind that comes quietly at night.
She feared the darkness that felt alive.
The kind that watched silently.
Waited patiently.
And moved when the lights disappeared.
As a child, Rebecca often heard strange sounds in her house after midnight.
Whispers.
Footsteps.
Soft scratching sounds outside her bedroom door.
Whenever she turned on the light…
Everything became normal again.
Her mother always dismissed her fear.
“It’s just your imagination,” she would say tiredly.
But Rebecca knew something was wrong.
Because imaginary things do not breathe in the dark.
Years later, Rebecca moved away and tried forgetting her painful childhood memories.
She wanted a normal life.
No fear.
No darkness.
No nightmares.
But some nightmares never truly leave.
One evening, Rebecca received a call from her younger brother, Martin.
His voice sounded terrified.
“Something is in the house,” he whispered.
Rebecca immediately felt cold fear returning inside her chest.
Because deep down…
She already knew what he meant.
When she arrived at the house, everything felt strangely familiar.
The same silence.
The same uncomfortable feeling.
The same darkness that seemed heavier than normal.
Martin looked exhausted.
He had dark circles under his eyes like someone who had not slept for days.
Then he quietly told Rebecca the truth.
Their mother had started talking to someone again.
Someone named Diana.
Rebecca froze instantly.
Because Diana was not supposed to exist anymore.
Years ago, Diana had been their mother’s friend from a mental hospital.
A deeply disturbed woman who hated light due to a rare skin condition.
She preferred darkness.
Lived in darkness.
Almost became part of darkness itself.
And after Diana died…
Strange things began happening around Rebecca’s family.
Lights flickering.
Moving shadows.
Unexplained whispers.
And one terrifying rule:
Diana could only appear in darkness.
Rebecca refused to believe it at first.
Until she saw it herself.
Late that night, while standing in the hallway, the lights suddenly started flickering.
On.
Off.
On.
Off.
And during one brief moment of darkness…
Rebecca saw a tall shadow standing at the end of the hallway.
Smiling.
Watching.
Waiting.
When the lights returned…
The figure disappeared.
Her heart nearly stopped.
Because some fears from childhood become far more terrifying when they turn out to be real.
From that moment, Rebecca understood something horrifying.
Diana had returned.
Every night became a nightmare.
Martin could barely sleep.
Their mother behaved strangely, almost like she welcomed Diana’s presence.
And the darkness inside the house felt alive.
Rebecca tried protecting her brother.
She kept lights on constantly.
Used candles.
Flashlights.
Anything to keep darkness away.
But darkness always returns eventually.
One stormy night, the electricity suddenly failed.
The entire house became silent.
Cold.
Black.
Martin grabbed Rebecca’s hand tightly.
“Don’t turn around,” he whispered fearfully.
But Rebecca slowly looked behind her anyway.
And there she was.
Diana.
Standing silently inside the darkness.
Her body twisted unnaturally.
Her smile empty and terrifying.
Her eyes filled with hatred.
The lights flashed again.
And suddenly Diana disappeared.
Then came the scratching sounds.
Closer.
Closer.
Closer.
Fear consumed everyone inside the house.
Because fighting something you cannot see is terrifying.
But fighting something that only exists in darkness feels impossible.
Rebecca finally realized the painful truth.
Diana’s connection to their mother was keeping her alive somehow.
As long as their mother emotionally depended on her…
The darkness would continue following them forever.
The final night became chaos.
Broken lights.
Screams.
Shadows moving through the house.
Every room filled with fear.
Rebecca desperately tried saving her brother while darkness surrounded them from every side.
And in that terrifying moment, she understood something important:
Sometimes the scariest monsters are not ghosts.
Sometimes they are pain, loneliness, and emotional trauma that refuse to disappear.
As the night grew darker, Rebecca made one final desperate decision to protect Martin forever.
A heartbreaking choice.
A painful sacrifice.
And suddenly…
The darkness became silent.
For the first time in years…
There were no whispers.
No shadows.
No fear hiding inside the night.
Only silence remained.
Days later, Martin stood outside the house staring at the sunrise quietly.
The nightmare was finally over.
But some emotional scars never fully disappear.
Because fear changes people.
Especially the kind of fear that follows you through darkness for years.
Rebecca’s story became a reminder of something terrifying:
Sometimes the things we fear most are connected to pain we never healed from.
And unless we face that pain…
The darkness keeps returning.
💡 Moral:
Fear becomes stronger when people keep running from it. Some emotional wounds, trauma, and pain continue haunting lives like darkness in the night. The only way to truly escape fear is to face it directly before it consumes everything around you.
