La Femme Nikita is One of the Darkest Television Shows Ever Made
I can't believe the writers got away with so many disturbing storylines in this series...

La Femme Nikita is a television show that was released sometime in the late 90s to the early 2000s. It follows the story of a young woman named Nikita, who is taken off the streets to be forced into the life of a government spy. She joins a group known as Section One, that consists of many people like Nikita that won't be missed, and they are all each trained to become fighters or to help the government program in some way.
They are literally forced to lose their humanity, doing the most awful things to ensure success for all of their missions. They take down dangerous monsters in the world, but they also do evil things against innocents or even to each other to make sure that they will always succeed for every mission.
If they don't comply with the mission, it could lead to either death or even torture.
Nikita's main love interest is the perfect example for what happens to people who serve Section One.
A young man named Michael has been one of the few most complicated characters I have ever seen on television. He is the mentor of Nikita that slowly falls in love with her, but he has done so many horrible things to make sure that he will always please Section One.
Michael is pretty much viewed like an emotionless husk of a human being, being portrayed like a robot that will always obey every command.
Michael was forced to marry a woman named Elena, because her father was a terrorist. She was unaware of Michael and her father's roles, and Michael was even forced to get Elena pregnant with his child. He was literally going home to his family, while also sleeping with Nikita, being married to another woman, (who had disappeared and was later confirmed dead before he met Nikita), and he slept with multiple other women to make sure that other missions would go well for Section One.
I felt so sorry for Nikita, when she first found out Michael's big secret of being married to a woman with a son. It was insane how forgiving she was, but I suppose she slowly got used to the evil influence and manipulation within Section One.
Nikita herself went through one of the darkest moments within the show.
She was asked to pretend to be married to a terrorist, a young man that was pure evil to the core. He had a brother that was also in the same business, and they both liked to torture women on the side. Nikita was disgusted about already pretending to be with him, and then she is forced to sleep with him to ensure that the mission will be successful. She confronts Section One later on in the episode and learns that she was hypnotized by the program with technology, using her love for Michael to get her to sleep with the monster.
It was even worse when Michael was aware of this, and Nikita understandably slapped him across the face. I felt so sorry for her character in this episode, she had been through a lot of horrible things prior to this episode, but this really was way too far for her character. Nikita was so distressed and angry, and man, Michael and the rest of Section One that was in charge of the mission really pissed me off.
I can't believe that the show even got away with so many of these episodes. Seriously, the content portrayed in the show was way too dark for television, but somehow, they got away with filming so many of these disturbing storylines.
There is no way that this show could ever be remade, and it's crazy how this show will be seen as 'forgotten television.'
