Welcome. I am excited to invite you to a special Halloween event! It takes place at a big old house that a group of enthusiastic musicians have converted into a recording studio. It features soundproof rooms that have been temporarily repurposed as party suites, specifically for this festive occasion. Each has a different theme and mini-playlist of fitting tracks. There are 9 rooms (a number casually reminiscent of Dante's 9 circles of hell), 4-5 songs each, for a total of 40 songs in all (over 3 hours of music).

A full playlist has been included, along with a name and description of each themed room, plus a breakdown of the specific songs played within it. The rooms can be visited in different orders, and they're geared for somewhat different party-goers. This is to accommodate the eclectic musical tastes, personalities, and ages of our guests (some who may in fact be hundreds of years already living; or rather—dead). By all means, enjoy, and don't forget your costume(s) (if needed).

About the songs: including everything from heavy metal to classical to movie soundtracks, this playlist runs the full spectrum of Halloween music. Although you will find some familiar themes and songs, the overall goal was to distinguish this collection from what you'd expect to see at a typical Halloween party. For this reason, some fan favorites have been omitted, in order to avoid cliches. The experience has unique themes, variety, and aesthetics. I hope you will enjoy the party, and have a fun and scary night (which begins at 8 pm, and continues until an undecided time)!

Room I: Great Hall (theme: a doorway into the shadows)

Track list

  1. “Requiem for the Gods” – Michiru Yamane
  2. “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor” – J.S. Bach
  3. The Phantom of the Opera Theme” – Andrew Lloyd Webber
  4. “Requiem: Rex Tremendae” – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

The great room has been decorated for gothic effect, in elaborate, baroque detail. Please, feel free to mingle with the other ghoulish guests. The music in this room will warm you up for a deliciously sinister evening, featuring Bach's famous organ theme that has become a mainstay of vampire narratives, along with Andrew Lloyd Weber's brooding Phantom of the Opera Theme. There's even a neo-classical gem from the vampire video game, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

Room II: Parlor (theme: casting a spell of darkness)

Track list

  1. Suspiria movie theme” – Goblin
  2. “Black Sabbath” – Black Sabbath
  3. “Cry Little Sister” (from The Lost Boys movie) – Gerard McCann
  4. “Black Wedding” – In This Moment ft. Rob Halford

At the center of this room is an altar, adorned with a skull, and various ceremonial amulets. The walls are covered with upside-down crosses, pentagrams, and various pagan symbols. The music chosen covers a range from the creepiest of witchy themes (“Suspiria”), to the ultimate song of heavy metal's ascension towards its exalted, satanic reputation (“Black Sabbath”). It's the perfect room for incantations and rituals. It could even serve as a suitable wedding chapel for a shotgun “black wedding”. An evil member of the clergy may be hired on request.

Room III: Lounge (theme: vanquishing evil)

Track list

  1. The Exorcist theme” – Mike Oldfield
  2. “Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead” – Ella Fitzgerald
  3. “Through the Fire and the Flames” – Dragonforce
  4. “Devil Went Down to Georgia” – Charlie Daniels

What is evil without the good that must challenge and seek to thwart it? The music in this room features inspiring tracks about overcoming evil. Whether the hypnotizing theme from the exorcist's standoff with the devil, marked by the theme from the film, or Ella Fitzgerald's jazzy version of “Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead”, this room is devoted to good triumphing over evil. The lounge is set up in contrast to the rest of the party, with warm lighting and soft colors. Just don't expect it to last.

Room IV: Game Room (theme: screenshots of terror)

Track list

  1. Resident Evil Save Room Medley” – Masame Ueda
  2. “The Clock Tower” – Michiru Yamane
  3. Parasite Eve theme” – Yoko Shimomura
  4. Shadows of Darkness theme” – Aubrey Hodges
  5. Silent Hill theme” – Akira Yamaoka

This room is dedicated to scary video games. It's set up to be modeled after the “save rooms” from the Resident Evil series, with an old typewriter in the center (along with a guestbook to sign). There's also a big picture- frame-style screen mounted on the wall, streaming footage from various horror games while the music plays. Games include horror classics Silent Hill and Castlevania.

Room V: Bedroom (theme: gazing into the abyss)

Track list

  1. “Mr. Crowley” – Ozzy Osbourne
  2. “Hallowed Be Thy Name” – Iron Maiden
  3. “Halloween” – The Misfits
  4. “Cemetery Girls” – Schoolyard Heroes

Skulls and deathly illustrations comprise the artwork covering the walls, to evoke music of The Misfits and Iron Maiden. You can even find a portrait of occult figure Aleister Crowley on the wall. No need to be afraid of the dark side. It beckons you. The music here invites us to have a rocking good time, as we fearlessly stare death in the eye. From punk to classic metal, this room reminds guests that it's possible to have a fun time even while being morbid.

Room VI: Living Room (theme: the extreme)

Track list

  1. “Convulsion” – Skinny Puppy
  2. “Into the Grave” – Grave
  3. “Raining Blood” – Slayer
  4. “Within” – Neurosis and Jarboe

Chains hanging from the ceiling, blood-colored walls, industrial-style art installations, strobe lights, and various other aspects of freaky fun set the tone for this room. Some of the most brutal and unsavory of music shakes the walls of this soundproof room. Everything from industrial metal to death metal, fans of extreme music won't be disappointed. Not for the faint of heart, and probably not for little kids! You might want to bring your earplugs for this one.

Room VII: Gallery (theme: killer on the loose)

Track list

  1. Halloween theme” – John Carpenter and Alan Howarth
  2. Psycho theme” – Bernard Herrmann
  3. Deep Red theme” – Goblin
  4. “Red Right Hand” – Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
  5. Day of the Dead theme” – John Harrison

Watch out, there's someone behind you! This room features a few themes charting some famously deranged and horrifying killers, plus a sinister song from Nick Cave: “Red Right Hand” (a reference to the devil). This room will keep you on your toes, with its dim lighting and walls filled with various portraits, reminding you of the potential evil lurking beneath the surface of random faces.

Room VIII: Dance Hall (theme: deadly dance party)

Track list

  1. “Phantom” – Justice
  2. “Ghost Hardware” – Burial
  3. “Bleeding” – Delerium
  4. Stranger Things theme remix” – C418
  5. “Come To Daddy” – Aphex Twin

Everybody has to dance at some point. Dark, moody EDM, with just enough of a pulse for dancing, creates the ambiance for this stylish room. Set up like a club, with neon lights and a disco ball, this spot provides a place to chill out or go crazy. All the while, smoke machines and eerie techno music fill the room with a haunted vibe.

Room IX: Garage (theme: funky funeral)

Track list

  1. “Soul Dracula” – Hot Blood
  2. “Dracula's Wedding” – Outkast
  3. “Nightmare on My Street” – DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince
  4. “Nightmare” – Kid Unknown
  5. “Organ Grinder” – DJ Shadow

The garage is stacked with coffins, presumably filled with bodies (but I wouldn't recommend you check). The music is devoted to funky and hopping songs that deal in macabre subject matter. Creepy and upbeat, ending in the garage is a great segue to transition back to the world outside of the mansion. That is, if you haven't been partied to death by now.
