Vivian looked around the store an odd confusion setting in her mind. She felt awful as she sat. Like she just got hit by a semi-truck. Like she just drowned in a pool. that’s when Vivian realized she wasn't at home. she was in trader joes. A person sat next to her, on their shirt a name tag that read 'Lux.' Vivian tapped the person's shoulder.

"excuse me." Lux turned to Vivian clearly unnerved by something. Vivian continued.

"do you know why we're on the floor? I can't remember. My notebook doesn’t say why either." Lux shook his head peering past the shelves to one of the windows.

"I'm not quite sure how to explain it, all I can say is you don't want to go outside." Vivian leaned over to see what Lux was looking at. Lux grabbed Vivian’s shirt pulling her back to the samples booth. Vivian looked at Lux confused.

"Are we married? I feel like I'm married to someone." The person shook their head. The phone rang before they could say anything else. Vivian took out her phone.

"Hello? who is this?" Vivian said a man's voice echoed through the phone.

"Vivian, it’s John, I was just calling to make sure your okay." Vivian looked at Lux confused.

"of course I'm okay?"

"good, listen, your medication stopped working. You had an episode a little bit ago. Something is happening right now. I don't want to trigger another episode so I can't say what’s happening. Just stay there, don't look out the windows, don't go outside. I’m on my way." Vivan noded writing down the stranger’s instructions. A small fly landed on her notebook. Its tiny maw opening ready to swallow her whole. Vivian screamed as she dropped the book. The fly sat starring at her as it slowly came towards her. Lux grasped Vivian stoping her from running outside.

"what’s wrong?" John asked

"its- its- it’s back John"

"the horse fly? honey, breathe remember, it’s not real, it’s not there." Vivian took deep breaths as she focused on the six-legged monster.

"it’s not real, it’s not there, it’s not real, it’s not there, it’s not real, it’s not there" The horse fly backed away from Vivian flying up to one of the shelve watching her, like a vulture waiting for its prey. Vivian shuffled closer to Lux who did their best to keep Vivian calm.

"that’s right, hang in there I'll come to pick you up when it’s safe to come out." Vivian sighed her anxiety was already acting up. she turned towards Lux doing her best to ignore the menace from above. she held the phone tightly.

"you’re a very nice man, are you married?" Vivian asked hopefully. John sighed a slightly exhausted tone in his voice.

"yes, honey, yes I am."

"oh that’s a shame, I probably would have married you," Vivian said slightly disappointed

"well, that makes sense I'm your husband." John chuckled, Vivian, peered at the phone in shock. She turned to Lux a slight look of accomplishment on her face.

"I knew that! I knew I was married!"

"Yeah, your getting better at remembering. do you remember how we first met Vivian?" John said

"I think so, I was, in the hills, I love the hills. I think I was living there. Right?"

"That’s right!" John said excitedly, another horse fly landed next to the first the two sat eyeing Vivian. Vivian continued in hopes of distracting herself. Trying To inch away from the creature.

"I was riding my horse, buster, and, and I, wait where-his leg's broken! John? John WHERES BUSTER?" Vivian's head began to pound as she looked around for her trusty steed. The. Feeling of something crawled beneath her skin.

"it’s okay, he's right next to me." a small whinny echoed through the phone Vivian sighed. Thank god, she thought she lost him. John continued the story.

"you hit your head, you got hurt. the emergency team rushed you to the hospital and-"

"that’s right! you were one of the surgeons! we started talking and-"

"and I eventually asked you out."

"oh how romantic, thank you, John. You know, now that I think about it... It always feels like your saving me from myself." Vivian inched away slightly a bit more trying to avoid the fly's uncomfortable stares. A loud noise rang through the building as the left window of the building shattered. Forcing the flower stand over as terrified screams echoed through the people inside. Vivian made the mistake of peering towards the noise. she expected a drunk driver or a tree. No, she didn't know what it was but it was NOT a tree.

it was long and slender and pitch black. it had Mantis-like hands and large eyes. it seemed to look at each person in the store with a burning glare. thousands of ropes dangling from its head like nooses the figure looked into the building it’s thousands of victims attached to each nooses. Vivian snuck behind the samples bar, along with Lux, who began to shake when the thing's eyes met his. A man's shattered voice echoing through the room.

"Danm Eggs!" Eggs? EGGS! Vivian forgot the eggs. Jim was going to kill her! the voice screeched.

"HOW THE HELL DO YOU FORGET EGGS!! THEY'RE THE EASIEST THING TO BUY, LET ME GUESS YOU ALSO FORGOT THE-"

"BEER! I FORGOT THE BEER!!!" Vivian screamed in realization. She turned to Lux.

"excuse me where is the alcohol section." Lux looked at Vivian confused, Vivian peered out at the thing. It surveyed the area almost as though it was looking for something, or someone. No, that thing didn't matter! The beer, she needed to get the beer! Vivian crawled past the hiding people desperately looking for a drink for her husband. She looked at her notebook hoping she wrote down where it was. that's when she read it on the first page. 'JIM'S GONE NOW.' That's right, she was married to John now. The horse flies already murdered, Jim. No, not murdered, they destroyed him peice by peice.

Vivian peered towards the front of the store. The thing's eyes quickly moved to Vivian as it slowly walked through the crowd dragging the hanged bodies with it. That's right, there was a crack, in the sky, it was swallowing people. Grabbing them, yanking them to a place they'd never be found. Vivian listened for John's voice. As she somehow made it back to her original spot beer in hand.

John's voice didn't respond, the only noise left was the thing's claw-like feet scrapping against the ground and the momentary cries from slightly alive people as they were dragged behind it. The horse flies flew over to the sample bar table their numbers increased as they looked down at the frightened woman. Waiting for her eventual demise. Ready to take her down to hell. Vivian didn't want to go to hell, she'd have to see Jim again. She didn’t want to see Jim!

The thing’s steps became quicker as it made its way to them. Stopping outside the sample bar. Vivian waited for it to attack. it didn't though, the figure stood there, staring at the two almost as though it was waiting for one of them to move or something along those lines.

Vivian looked up to see the horse flys covering the top of the bar. Vivian lurched forward. ready to run past the creature. Lux grabbed her arm Vivian turned to Lux who was covered head to toe in flies. Vivian screamed as the creature looked at her.

"JOHN!! JOHN! SOMEONE HELP ME!!!" the thing stared at Vivian as she screamed its eyes wide almost as if it was scared too. The bright light of a flashlight began to shine. The thing screeched as it ran from the building desperate to avoid the light. A man's voice rang through the phone. An echo of the lights owner speaking in unison.

"Don't worry Honey, I'm right here." Vivian turned to the source of the light. it was a car, no, it was her husband's car. Driving towards the entrance. a man in a Hawaiian shirt rushed out of the car clutching the phone. the people scream warning the man the man jumped through the now broken window running to Vivian. the flies disappeared Vivian felt tears fall from her eyes. this man, this stupid overly affectionate man, was her husband.

Vivian ran towards him holding him in her arms. she cried as she looked up at him.

"honey, thank god, something's happening, something really bad is happening!"

"I know honey," John said handing Vivian an umbrella.

"come on, we're going home. It’s safer there." Lux walked towards them.

"wait do you live near the Boise State campus? My significant other, they're in college, I haven't been able to call them because I was technically on the clock and now my battery's dead. I need to make sure they're okay." Vivian looked at John a pleading look in her eyes.

"We can't just let them walk out in the rain, not to mention how nice they've been." John sighed grabbing another umbrella from his pocket. the three ran to the car doing their best not to garner the attention of the black ropes as they pulled whatever they could get their hands on into the sky. Vivian smiled at John doing his best to stay calm. She was safe, Vivian was safe now.
